Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/imag...6918/syoei.gif

Original creator (light novel) : Akira
Original Character-design : Hidari
Plot summary : The story follows a hikikomori (shut-in) named Sasami who is unmotivated about even changing clothes or eating. Her brother takes care of her, even though she despises his slave-like nature. Sasami spends her days viewing the outside world via a "Brother Surveillance Tool" on her computer. In the outside world, the three beautiful Yagami sisters and Sasami's brother are in the middle of relationships worthy of a romantic comedy.

Note : Akira launched the light novel series in 2009. The sixth volume shipped in August.

Looks interesting, but hopefully Sasami's brother won't turn out to have much of a "slave-like" nature.

Kismet-chan 2011-12-14 04:49

Huh, well that definitely sounds... interesting? Will be keeping an eye on this, I guess.

My first thoughts as well.....

... I think I'm sensing some bro-con...

Hooray another show about Hikkikomori's and/or creepy vaguely incestuous relationships between slavishly doting brother(s) and his sister(s). Please make more shows with these themes Japan as the audience for this clearly isn't being served well enough.

Let me say one thing now that I finished reading the second volume today: the summary isn't wrong, but the story in Sasami-san is way more serious than it appears. I started reading mainly because of Hidari's illustrations (lol), but this series turned out to be very interesting because of its different setting (no, it doesn't have relations with hikikomoris) and how the story has some heavy and touching moments. Of course there are some fun/fanservice chapters too :D

The real setting has relation with:
Spoiler for Plot:

Now, don't be so harsh on that. The premiere may sounds like the same thing we have been drinking for year, but the actual content could be really different. All it matters is the story and the execution anyway.

According to Moonphase Diary, the anime will premiere next year on TBS and BS-TBS stations.

Director: Akiyuki Shinbo
Script/series composition: Takayama Katsuhiko
Character design/chief animation director: Harada Hiroki
Studio: Shaft
Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread) I... wow, I just starting reading the LN recently and thought how fitting it would be if Shaft were the ones to animate it. Never thought it would actually come true!

^mfw I see that staff list. THAT'S AWESOMEEEEEEE!!! I was going to call it quits if Hidari's character design gets screwed one more time, and then they got Harada on board!!!!

leokiko 2012-08-09 23:40

The premise already seemed interesting enough and now...Shinbo? Damn, how I wish this would air on fall :(

sirn 2012-08-10 01:54

Takayama Katsuhiko worries me. His recent screenplay work are not so good. :\

SHAFT's piling up again. They have this, PRISM NANA, Hidamari Sketch, Madoka and Kizumonogatari in line already. You'd think they've learned after slowing down for a whole year but I guess not. I still love them.

Well, they are just trying to generate more income :heh:

But I don't think they are piled up with work though. The first Madoka movie is essentially a re-cap anyway.

desrtsku 2012-08-10 06:30

Shinbo/Shaft's got a load of work nonetheless ... tch, no wonder Kizu was delayed >.>

redgrnbluylw 2012-08-10 07:33

...Well, Shaft certainly seems to like material with WTF premises. This one gives me a subtle Arakawa vibe.

Official site updated with what seems to be a key illustration of the anime.

Can't tell if this is Hidari's illustration or Harada Hiroki's character designs, but coloring looks very anime-ish.
I'm hoping we're seeing SHAFT pulling another Denpa Onna's character design again here...

I'm pretty sure it's Harada's illustration, considering how much efforts he puts justice into retracing Hidari's designs.
