Never taught that I would say it but I start liking Haqua more than Elsie
|
Well then, they certainly changed Haqua's subplot quite a bit and cut out quite a lot. I understand the necessity since the anime will end with the Goddess arc and the events that were changed from the manga correspond with the arc that happen after it.
Unfortunately these cuts and changes make Haqua's escape look rather strange to an anime only viewer and likely hard to understand. I imagine this probably won't be taken all that well, even if it was necessary. More heartache for Ayumi and Chihiro as Keima struggles to find Ayumi's Good End through all this chaos. |
Spoiler for Thoughts on changes to Haqua's sub arc - general impression, no plot details:
|
Honestly I feel like Nora's getting shortchanged way more than Haqua, to the point where even her motivations don't make much sense, but I suppose that's for anime-viewers to judge.
|
I was actually annoyed at how much Elsie keeps getting shafted but here everybody is talking about Haqua and Nora getting their characterizations cut. Christ almighty, just how badly is Elsie shafted in manga? Does she still do anything of real relevance anymore?
|
Lot's of parts cut but in the overall was a excellent episode. The appearance of Haqua in is "Renegade" clothes really suit her well. Let's see next episode (another great part of the manga will be adapted. Some more heavy laughing!)

Spoiler for Answer:
Yeah... I guess Nora does get shafted too, but Nora was always a supporting character. This sub arc was basically Haqua's "Heroine of Another Story" arc and that was mostly removed so as to progress the core story. Don't get me wrong. It's still a good adaptation, and probably the right choice considering their episode count limitations, but I can't help but miss it. Anyway... enough about the comparisons with the manga. Lets talk about the actual episode: Spoiler for Today's Episode Highlights:
Chihiro has now gone through the following progression: "background character" to "average girl" to (last week's episode) "love that might have been" to (today's episode) "Muggle and (unwilling) Secret Keeper to the main character". She just keeps advancing in story importance despite being "more average than the average girl." I think that's what makes Chihiro such a fun character. |
I do really love this episode. Haqua was really awesome in it, and I feel like she is a better partner for Keima than Elsie is. However, since she is off the Soul Squads, I'm guessing she will rejoin them after this arc? Does she have a partner, or is Keima her unofficial partner?
I felt the flow of this episode to go well, and I did not feel like I was missing anything. People have mentioned that there were details missing from Haqua, but I would not have noticed at all. The flow was fine. Keima is in a tough pinch right now, and I'm sometimes really confuse by the actions he takes. Does he not realize that he has total disregard for people's feelings? The only lucky thing on his side is that it looks like Ayumi has feelings for him, and it won't go away easily. However, if she goes out with Keima, it would feel like an even bigger betrayal against Chihiro than it already is. I'm not sure how it will be resolved. Also, with all the goddesses captured besides 2, I'm guessing a rescue mission will occur soon. |
Well, the Haqua torture scene, if I remember correctly, was a bit... kinky... so maybe that is also another reason why they removed it. That aside, they did a good job giving the viewers the abridged version of her "goin rogue" moment. But I do agree that Nora deserved better, even though she may not be one of my favorite characters.

think about this way if they was animated the haqua sub plot we would seen in every scence white bar becouse it too much fan service so i think it good they left it out
|
I'm giving this a 10 due to all the Haqua goodness in this episode.
Not only does she sing the opening, but she also sang the insert song, and ending theme too! Dat overkill. Haqua is definitely the hero New Hell deserves. |
Remember children the more you play the hate game with a God, the more you're falling under the weight of his ethereal charms!
|
Haqua was absolutely awesome in this episode. And that outfit
|
Goddamn, Haqua needs more screen-time. She's always been my fav since S2.

Her entrance scene was all kinds of awesome. She looked great, and got to act particularly cool. I got all giddy. |
ONE MORE WEEK?! GAaaaah! I want to see Ayumi's conquest nooooow. :T_T:
Well, besides that, welcome back Haqua. You were missed, you wonderfully overqualified demon you. |
From this episode, we know that:
1. hell surface was unhabited because of the poisonous miasma from the old battle 2. new hell is floating on top of the hell surface 3. the hell was in another space-time dimension from human world. 4. and it could be connected to our world, |
Seems like they've been saving most of the animation budget for the fight scene--although short, it was much smoother than I expected given what the rest of the series looks like. Nice job.
|
Haqua was just awesome this episode :heh: glad to see her return, while I am completely lost how Keima has decided to handle Ayumi case atm, he'll need luck, love, and a brilliant plan to resolve it in less than a day :eyespin:.
P.S. On Nora as an anime only watcher I really could care less about her. |
