A quiet introductory episode, giving us more of the pleasure of spending time with the main cast, and the great pleasure of new characters played by Yukana and (ta-da!) Yuuki Aoi. Yukana gives us a quiet, strong, and serious ojousama voice. And after several characters way up in excited soprano land, we get to hear Ao-chan being calm and in her lower register again.

ow Irisu is indeed one sexy onee-san and Empress arcana really fits her but more importantly I'd love to see kyoani put a ponytail on her

Anyone know the meaning of the tarot cards mentioned in the episode? I looked up Fool but tl;dr the entire story. Basically it means new beginnings and naivety? :heh: I guess that fits Chitanda.

Fuyumi Irisu, in one word: manipulative. Or two words, perhaps: super manipulative. Not that it's a bad thing. But she did use Chitanda for the sole purpose of getting Houtarou involved in the process.

My biggest problem with the whole concept of this "mystery" thrust upon the Classics Club is, why didn't someone in Class 2-F just ask Hongou who the culprit is? If there are already plenty of clues, as Isrisu asserts, then the author would obviously already know who the designated culprit is.

Okay, sure, she could be in a coma, but "falling ill" doesn't have the same implications as, say, she got "brain fever," or she got in an accident and is bandaged from head to toe.

So, for me, the real mystery is just that, why didn't someone ask just Hongou? Second to that, and perhaps even more importantly, why didn't Houtarou ask Isrisu this same question? And then come the mysteries of why are Isrisu and Eba now involved?

I know it's possible that there may be some answers imbedded in the text messages and internet chat at the beginning of the episode, but the subs I watched were not particularly enlightening.

Nonetheless, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable episode. Not as exciting and, dare I say, eye-sparklingly flashy as some of the others, but a rather calm and relaxing episode.

Okay, I've complained in previous episodes about Eru thrusting her face into Hotarou's personal space, but I've gotten to the point where I enjoy it. It's so ridiculously overplayed it's hilarious when I see it now. :heh:

The movie was a bit hard to watch though. The shaky cam, framerate, and zooming/focusing had me feeling a bit nauseous (like playing certain FPS games).

I, for one, am glad to hear that. I say, "Personal space be damned! How could you not want to stare into those bewitching eyes?!"
Can you say, "Blair Witch Project?" Personally, I never saw it. The previews were enough to warn me off. But it sure seems like someone in Class 2-F was influenced by that movie.

I have to agree that the biggest question was why they didn't just ask the author who the culprit is. I get that she is sick and can't write the rest of the script herself, but should already know who she has decided is the culprit. Since she isn't dead we are lacking reasons why she wouldn't be able to resolve this.

Instead had Chitanda be used to rope Houtarou into this. Of course Houtarou did his best to stay out of this since there wasn't much reason for him to put the work into solving this. Unfortunately the secret weapon was pulled out and thus Houtarou must solve it.

It's tough to call who is the culprit if only because the actors were terrible. Hard to see any of the oddballs in that film being the killer. Of course if I'd have to guess right now it's between Jirou and Yuri. Someone had to take the master key to lock the dead guy in the room and those two knew there was a master key unlike the others who just waited until keys were brought too them. Though they might have just killed him because he's really loud :heh:.

Did like Houtarou trying not to even leave his house because it was too hot. Of course got ambushed by Chitanda so that wasn't an option.

This is new to me; I had no idea there were rules when it comes to writing mysteries...

As for the movie itself- while the bad acting made the whole thing seem less serious, the camera angle and movement does salvage the situation- I was expecting a jump scare somewhere :eyespin:

I also get the feeling this might be some kind of test that Irisu set up for Houtarou... Maybe his sister is involved again? The underlining theme this time might be discovering one's talent.

Well, it seems that the acting is supposedly irrelevant to the outcome, and that one can guess the culprit from the script alone.

In which case, watching the movie itself might MAKE it harder to solve the case, on the account of the mediocre execution.

What do you guys think about the beginning? At first, it seems as if it's Hongou apologizing to Irisu over not being able to finish the script, and Irisu contacting Chitanda for help. That being said, there are a couple of things the directing focused on: "Senpai" and "They might dance for you" (Using Mazui's script). It's pretty easy to guess that, if the person Hongou apologized to is Irisu, then the person that Irisu might be talking to is Oreki's sister.

Secondly, if you notice the same person's (名前を入れて下さい) conversation with "L", you'll notice that they never show the log under their conversation, so you can assume that the conversations are different. So this is probably when she asked Chitanda for help. So yeah, I guess this was kinda obvious that Irisu was asking Chitanda, but I guess I agree that Oreki's sister is involved with this one too.

It's kinda funny that the loud one died first. :heh:. Also, the whole movie was kinda neat. I'm not a fan of CG backgrounds, especially when they're as blatant as this, but the fact that camera kept changing perspectives and was jittery was really interesting.

Not to mention the main event, Irino Miyu...

Yes, the one whose text is in orange is the senpai of the person in blue. The senpai seems to know about the Classic's club and Oreki's penchant for solving mysteries.

The girl in Pink "L" which I would guess is Eru. Eru and L kind of sound similar in Japanese phonics. Also, I would guess the person on the phone and the computer are both the same which I would say is Irusu.

The person Irusu is texting on the phone is most likely the script writer. However, the texts from the script writer doesn't seem more like an illness and rather makes it seem like she simply for some reason cannot finish. The reason why is a mystery in itself because it is obvious the script writer is capable of communication. The last text to the script writer implies that there was some intent and a specific way that the movie was supposed to end.

Personally, I think they are using the Classics Club to write the ending for them rather than finding out who the culprit is.

It probably wouldn't be a bad guess to say that Blair Witch Project was huge around the time this appeared in the novel.

for a minute there i thought they are gonna show them a cheap hardcore horror flick then turn into some cheap porn.....

So in the beginning, was that Irisu talking to her senpai, and then talking to Chitanda (name in pink?)

Also, yeah, dat Irisu. She's giving Chitanda a run for her money at being the best girl of the series.

I had assumed that the Irusu was a third-year, which is why I thought it was Oreki's sister, but I guess she's a second-year. I still think it's Oreki's sister but I'm not too sure now.

I definitely agree with this. At this point, I'm just confused on why they'd go through doing this. At one point watching the episode, I almost thought they were making a movie of a school club solving a movie mystery :heh:.

This week on Hyouka! SherlockOreki is called in to solve a fictional mystery. After watching The Blair Witch ProjectCloverfield he announces that Yuki Nagato is the killer, and then goes home and snorts cocaine plays his violin.

Actually, no, this episode kicks off what promises to be the next multi-episode arc.

In the teaser, we learn that the screenwriter has burned the master copy of the script after getting into a mood from too much tequila. Havelock Vetinari and Batman then conspire to get Sherlock Oreki to recreate the ending for them. We also learn that Eru L. Chitanda doesn't like the motha<GITAH CHORD> keys on her motha<GITAH CHORD> keyboard.

After the credits, the Classics Club learns that they've been invited to a private screening of The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Mystery (TODO: Make up better title.) Satoshi recognizes their host as VetinariIrisu who singlehandedly stopped the Apocalypse of Moe by arranging to have the Unseen University think that banishing K-On! back to their own reality was their idea.

The movie, starring a guy who came from the "Yell louder, the half-deaf guy in the back can't hear you!" school of acting, some actors from the "We paid these guys in beer" school of acting, and Yuki Nagato; is suitably atrocious. It ends abruptly, and it's all a setup to get Oreki to do some real work, for a change; complete with THE HYPNOTOAD Chitanda using her stare to . . . ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

EightEleven slow claps out of ten.

I never get tired of those faces of regret and pestered on Oreki face. Everytime Eru makes that oh so wonderful face to Oreki asking for a favor he's got this, "Oh god not this again!" look.

The look on his face when he's buddies are asking him a favor is also priceless.

another dull episode, but its probably setting things for the next one.
