Urusei Yatsura is getting an anime remake TV anime next year on Fuji TV.

Wow....that's an unexpected Takahashi classic to remake in the modern day, even if it is one of the most iconic :eyespin:.

Kind of wondering how well this'll go over :heh:.

Guardian Enzo 2021-12-31 11:00

So are they going to adapt the whole thing - 34 volumes? Seems hard to believe.

Happy new year! And looks like this early 20s decade is still deep in nostalgia mode. I mean, Urusei Yatsura remake? Although it's not as shocking as Parasyte & Ushio to Tora anime announcement, it's still pretty significant.

What's next? 3x3 Eyes & Ryuroden anime with high production values? God, I hope so. Even Slime highlighted 3x3 Eyes manga in its own show. It's just that good and it's waiting for the right adaptation.

Also, apparently, Sumipe and Kamiyan will voice the MC pair.

Okay, Sumire as Lum I can get, but Hiroshi Kamiya? Like, it fits, but that's utterly hilarious :heh:.

I don't know if it's good or bad news but unexpected.

Rumors are David Production is a studio, so who knows.

The poster says Noitamina, which is the biggest WTF here. I guess they're only going to adapt the chapters introducing new characters or advancing the story, so not many of them. That would kind of miss the point of what this series is about though. The original isn't lacking in any way so this remake feels unnecessary.

I'm willing to see what David Production does with it...

SidVicious 2021-12-31 19:12

Holy shit...this is legit?

Last Sinner 2021-12-31 19:20

Hmmm...let's see...2021 really jaded me with the remake/remastered tag. Maybe this one could work.

Perhaps the one piece of good news- since this looks to be legit- is that fans in the West can finally see an actual series of this.

My understanding is that the original 80's series is stuck in Licensing Hell, much like Macross (STILL!) is. Or rather, the license for overseas 9at least in the States) expired pretty early and was never renewed. Something like that, with the bottom line being that Westerners never got a proper series release.

Remakes either bring back the original cast or start from scratch with younger big name talent...this is going in the latter direction :eyespin:.
