Tron Legacy (2010)

well this is a surprise. I never thought they would do a sequel of the original Tron. This sure brings back memories. So, here is the trailer for the next Tron movie.Enjoy!! :)

Plot: Sean Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Are you kidding me? The original Tron is from 1982.
It already has 27 years. If you haven't seen it, then I don't know what planet are you on.:heh:

When Tron was made people found it absolutely awesome that you could produce moving pictures with a computer and then put them into a movie. :)

People still think it.
I have yet to see the first, and I believe u meant 1982.

Thanks, fixed!

2009-1982 = 27

Edit: Actually after seeing the trailer it indeed looks good. Look like it's in the right direction.

lol I wasn't even born yet back then

I've yet to see the original either, but I know its a classic after the countless times the older folks have told me. I'll be looking forward to this! =)

The trailer wasn't what I expected in terms of technical achievement, although I'd imagine it should be a lot closer to what was originally envisioned compared to the technology available back in the 80's. That's if the same personnel from the original are involved with this new rendition I guess. There's just this difference in detail that I can't really come to terms with in contrast with the sci-fi I'm use to. It will take a bit of time for this particular minimalistic design to grow on me, heh.

I've seen bits and pieces of the original but I've yet to see the whole thing and I don't really know the plot like, at all. XD

But I know it's a well-loved classic and major technical achievement of the time, and I'm perfectly down with the retro look of the trailer. I'll probably watch this.

I remember seeing this movie when I was very little. I didn't really understand much of what was going on, but I was absolutely captivated by the virtual setting. I won't spoil anything considering there's a _surprisingly_ few people who haven't seen the original. The new movie, actually, looks very promising and seems like it's going to work, not like most sequels (especially those made nearly 3 decades later). From the looks of the trailer, it looks like it would be really helpful to see the first movie. So for those who are interested, watch the 1982 release. It's epically epic!

I have to add that Tron was my favorite movie as a kid as well; I watched it at least a couple times per week, and I understood the story after so many watchings, even as a kid.

I'm just hesitant about this new movie. Could it possibly be as good, keeping the same feel as the original? Sequels or re-adaptations made years later, rarely seem as good to me. The trailer with the bikes looks decent enough, but I don't like the new suits and the way the faces are in those helmets. I liked the old suits.

Ah well, we'll see.

I think I'll just leave this here.

I think...I will stick with Kingdom Hearts 2 for my Tron fix...at least until I see a bit more of the new movie...

Kaijo 2010-03-10 20:54

Meh, great, the suits look half-ass. It's like they aren't even putting half the effort into them that the first movie did, and instead trying to sell it on sex appeal.

Dammit, Disney, do you even know what made the first film so great? Obviously not, because you seem intent on mutilating all the good things, and using sex to sell.

Lost Cause 2010-03-10 21:54

COOL! A new Tron! Sign me up!

Vexx 2010-03-11 00:59

Okay... I was originally very "o god here they go again screwing something up".

But they got Jeff Bridges to sign on (who does NOT need to do this film if he doesn't want to) -- and it appears that this may have a meatier story than the original (which was pretty simplistic).

So I'm going to grit my teeth and say given what I've seen so far, it may be worth a trip.

Sinestra 2010-03-11 13:19

I had my doubts about this remake but after seeing the trailer im actually getting pretty pumped. It looks darker than the original with some serious special effects. Plus they got Jeff to come back and play Flynn thats just bad ass. The light cycles are just insane looking now. Im not worried about the CG in this day and age its hard not to do well in that department. As long as the story flows and its not some watered down piece of garbage i think i will be happy.

Funny note did anyone else get the feeling that Flynn might be the bad guy this time around? Im getting a vibe that he was corrupted somehow maybe by renaming pieces of MCP program.

Xion Valkyrie 2010-03-11 17:18

Hmm, how does this connect with the first movie again? I thought I remembered it being pretty closed ended.
