Shirokuma Café
Original creator : Aloha Higa
Plot summary : The gag comedy follows the daily life of penguins, grizzly bears, and other animals at a café run by a polar bear. Note : Higa launched the manga in Monthly Flowers in 2006 as her first published work. Shogakukan published the third volume of the manga in 2010. The anime will premiere this April. |
Wonder if this is the 2nd NoitaminA spring anime
edit: or maybe not since Uchuu Kyoudai seems like another candidate, maybe it takes over for chihayafuru in NTV's timeslot? I have a hard time imagining a josei airing on something other than NoitaminA or "that unnamed tuesday NTV block" |

So yeah, there are quite a few peculiar series announced for this spring but they can't all end up on the 3 "not necessarily targeting otaku" slots (counting noitaminA as 2). This one is a better candidate for the NTV timeslot since Uchuu Kyoudai is unlikely to get it for sponsor reasons (VAP always produces these series, but Uchuu Kyoudai is on Aniplex's side). |

Surprised at the lack of interest for this, cast looks pretty epic

Free members will be able to chill out with the show in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Count me in based on the voice cast alone. :uhoh: |
I'm actually looking forward to this.
Pandas, Penguins and Bears. What's not to like? |
I haven't been impressed by much so far this season, but this show seems like a keeper. The humor, structure and setting remind me a lot of Working!! -- of course, having Takanashi, Souma and Satou in the cast doesn't hurt. The balance between plot and gags seems just right. Interestingly, the head writer only has one other credit to his name so we'll have to see how well he's able to hold the series together.
|
Some people may not take it seriously due to the character design but personally, I like it! Such a refreshing change from typical character designs, and the comedy provides a fun watch.

I thought this was going to be one of those 3 minutes per episode series. But it was a full 24 minutes. A pleasant surprise. Very amusing. I'm so glad they're explaining the puns.

This anime is kindo cute. It has a similarly relaxing atmopshere to Natsume Yuujinchou, although the shows have nothing else in common otherwise.
Could be good, but its is hard to say. If I am going to enjoy it, it will be for its calming qualities, but that can easily turn boring. |
I've just watched the first episode and it 'seems interesting, funny and relaxing after all those thrilling, horroring or simply complicated animes. Despite other similar anime like Poyopoyo, Recorder and Randoseru, Chi'sweet home, every episode is (luckly) a little longer.
Another good point is the seiyu cast expecially Fukuyama and Sakurai but also Kamiya and Konishi I'm looking forward the next episodes |

Anyways cute first ep. I am not sure if the novelty will wear off but I did enjoy it. The lazy Panda was especially funny, I especially like the job he ended up finding. :heh: |
That was just simple fun.
|
I just watched the first episode. At first, I was not too sure about it, but I actually really liked it.
It's so cute! and I love Panda! I'll definitely be keeping up with this one! |
Gonna check this out. Could be one of the nice goofy sleepers that I'm looking for. :D

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered.

LOL'd hard on this. Pretty light and funny, so it's a show just right enough to kick off the shoes and relax.
Best thing is, it includes Aya Endo. :D |
I bet the VAs have lots of fun voicing the characters. I couldn't stop laughing when I imagined the look on their faces.
|
I was not intending to watch this show, but I thought I'd check out the first episode and I'm damn glad I did, because it was good fun. Loved the job interviews, and that panda is SUCH a slacker!
|
"I'd totally go with the tuna boat." :heh:
I wasn't sure about this, but the alchemy totally worked - for one episode at least. That cast doing that material is just funny - and some of the humor was pretty smart, too. |
It's cuteee.
First episode is pretty decent imho. |
love ep1, i was thinking i will only be watching Fate this season but this series is great.
and Jun Fukuyama was terrific, he really capture the essence of his character well. |
Will probably be bored with this after some ep but so far..this shizz is just so damn adorb <3

biggest surprise for me this season so far.
|
Well ... finally got around to watching ep 1.
Hmm ... not quite sure what to make out of this one as well. The polar bear puns and penguin tsukkomi interchanges were the best part of the series for me, but honestly I wondered what the show was about. Is it not meant to have any overiding plot or such, like Acchi Kocchi doesn't seem to have? If so that's fine, but somehow I wonder if Shirokuma Cafe actually has some kind of story/plot under it all? Ah well. Will watch future eps.... |
Watching for the voice cast alone! Epi 1 was very cute. I loved how Polar Bear kept wanting Panda to get the tuna boat job.

Yeah, "I'd totally go for the tuna boat" was my favorite line of the ep...
|
On epi 2, something about a penguin, a girl, a llama and a panda all dressed as pandas made me laugh out loud. :heh:
"Change everything back." -Shirokuma :heh: |
I busted a gut on this episode; Penguin got real drunk, earned his beer goggles right in. :heh:
Nice hearing that nata de coco is mentioned here (and I thought it was a passing fad). |
To everyone avoiding this show because of the premise - trust me, it's not what you're expecting. Please give it a chance and be ready to laugh your asses off.

The only part that got to me in episode 1 was the "tuna" part and the end with the absurdity of a panda working at a zoo. So I'm really on the fence about giving episode 2 a shot. |
Go for it, frere. Probably the best comedy I watched since Azumanga Daioh. :D
|
THE PANDA IS FREAKING ADORABLE <33333
Spoiler for cute<3:

The fact that Panda collects panda stuff, okay I think I died :heh:
Also I really hope Penguin gets with that girl he likes. :) |
That's sure a relaxing show. It's also pretty nice and this animal design is refreshing.
I really enjoy the OP and to quote Blue-kun : Quote:
キタ━━━(゜∀゜)━━━!!!!! (from pixiv) |
Episode 2 fell a bit empty and flat.... maybe the first episode raised the expectations too high.
But I am not giving it up yet, lets see where the next epi is taking this series. I totally like the panda mother and how she is giving him the vacuum cleaning punishment. Thats really cute!!!!! :D |
Some nice funny moments again. Don't know why but i was laughing so hard when Panda was wearing a panda outfit in the cafe. Polar Bear can sure dance. Penguin is great drinking buddy to have.
