Wait... according to ANN this is Noitamina's animation for Autumn but wasn't the Mononoke spin-off starting in October too?

I thought Mononoke was starting in July which would be about right for an autumn slot for this show if that is indeed the case.

Yeah, you are right. Mononoke is starting in July, while Moyashimon is starting in October.

Hey, this looks promising, or at least pleasant. It will likely soothe my soul now that Mononoke is almost finished...:(

Sonhex 2007-09-26 15:07

Woot, found a brief trailer found on Youtube. I'm kind of surprised by the apparent action here (it had slice-of-life written all over it), but I'm really interested to see how this one plays out.

Really good first episode Nice OP and ED music and animation
And the bacteria are already too cute -- then they talk!

Kirarakim 2007-10-11 13:08

Ha Ha they already have plushies :heh:

I was really curious about this title so I am glad to hear it was good from at least one person. It definitely has the most original concept for the season. Hopefully it will be subbed soon.

Mangaka-chan 2007-10-11 20:50

Oh my god this show is so cute! Talking bouncing bacteria! XD I hope this series gets subbed soon!

Sonhex 2007-10-12 14:14

Best OP ever! Dancing CG bacteria. Awesome!

The OP is technically brilliant. Such a wonderful composition of photography and CG.

The bacteria is so funny and cute; they're like bizarre little pets with voices and emotions. The show is a little odd though, but in a good way. It's educational too. I hope it gets subbed, all the bacteria names hurt the head :p

Snoop' 2007-10-12 14:31

Watched ep.1
It was... OK.

The OP and ED are very good and well done, the mini-episode at the end is educational and lovely. And, yes, the bacteria IS cute !
On the other hand, animation and chara design is average (I mean, spare me the female assistant in leather clothes !), and I found the voice acting to be quite bad. Then again, 99% of anime look mediocre after Seirei no Moribito and Mononoke.

The OP was indeed technically brilliant. How did they do that? The shadows of bacteria. People passing in front of the bacteria, etc. The show itself didn't capture me. It looked good. The idea is interesting. One problem is how little I like Sakaguchi Daisuke's voice. But this was just an introductory episode. We'll see where they take it.

Without getting too technical and boring, they shoot the live action material first (to a storyboard probably), then create the CG matching it to the live action footage adding in the right lighting, depth of field, shadows and whatnot in software like 3ds max or Softimage. It's probably a professional special fx studio more used to movies or advertising than anime.Technicalities aside it takes a very good director with a good eye for realism to bring it all together. I'd like to know who did it myself.

I tend to agree here. After that amazing OP I was left a bit underwhelmed except whenever the bacteria were onscreen. They're simply awesome and clearly the best thing about the show so far. Hasegawa is completely out of place; I hope she mellows. She reminds me of Ayako from Ghost Hunt...

That's it ! An annoying and typically "anime" character.
I was thinking someone along the line of that crazy sadistic girl we see in the first episodes of Red Garden...

BTW all the bacteria are made in CG, and they blend very well in the 2D animation. :)

Are any groups planning to fansub this?
