Which anime pushed you to the edge of emotion?
 

Well, just like the title said! Please tell me the anime that had pushed you to the extreme level of emotional: Fury, Despite, Infactuated,... I want to compare the capability of anime to raise the wave inside audiances (to other forms of Art).

Oh, and this is not a hate thread, so please respect other's opinion.

I just hope this doesn't turn into a hate thread (OP you might want to include some positive emotions in your opening post).

On topic,
Jigoku Shoujo(season 1 and 2) - sad and furious(at some of the characters).
Maria Sama Ga Miteru - Very giddy:blush:
School Days - Furious at myself for sitting through it.

Grave of the fireflies, 5cm per second, Elfen Lied - Extremely sad.

Clannad and Clannad Afterstory - Mixed bag :p

And a very, very special mention for

Berserk - Awestruck and horrified.

P.S. there are plenty more but these will do for now.

Well, two shows that I can vividly remember making me cry are Clannad: After Story and Tamayura. There may have been other shows that had that effect on me, but these are the first two to come to mind.

True Tears was the first anime I watched where the result of a romantic conflict truly left me a bit angry and sad. Until I watched True Tears, I couldn't really relate to passionate shippers. After True Tears I could.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was similar to True Tears in this regard, but slightly less pronounced by sheer virtue of me watching it shortly after I did True Tears.

Sola left me feeling pretty disconcerted over the actions of most of its protagonists.


Then there are some shows that gave me a lot of 'good vibes' and emotional highs. These would include Love Live!, Saki, Mari-Mite, and Tari Tari.


Regardless of what I wrote about True Tears, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, and Sola, I do recommend the shows. The opinion that I've come to over time is that an anime that emotionally impacts you is probably better, or at least makes for a better memory, than an anime that doesn't leave you feeling much. True Tears will always hold a special place in my memory largely due to the impact its last few episodes had on me.

Whenever topic like this comes up, everyone mentions the same set of Grave of Fireflies, Kiminozo, Clannad, etc, etc.

But I've never seen Now and Then, Here and There brought up.
It deserves way more recognition than it has.

The anime that made me feel the most was Angel Beats.

The anime that made me cry first was IDOLM@STER.

The only other one that did was Sakurasou.

I can't quite recommend it since it's pretty gut-wrenching painful to watch, but if you want to see something devastatingly emotional, it definitely is high up there. :)

Well then, I need to find an equally sweet yuri show or manga to balance that :p

So, we have "Sadness", so what about "Happiness"? Which anime makes you adore your life even more?

Just to be clear, Mari-Mite is the shortened name for the same show that Eragon is referring to - Maria Sama ga Miteru. So both of us are recommending it.

I acquired the seeds after finishing the VN Yume Miru Kusuri, and it's full blown after I watched H2O (which I watched with great pain throughout, even though it ended in a somewhat lighter note). After that, I have a huge aversion with anything with the "bullying" theme. Not that I hate it per se, just that my stomach couldn't handle the nausea I felt when I encountered such things.

Then come Narutaru...which I finished, but...ugh...the nausea! The despair!

I've never been a cryer when it comes to shows on TV and anime (Although I wouldn't mind shedding a tear to two :p ) I think the closest I ever, eevveerrr got was a certain scene in The IdolM@aster that everytime I see makes me feel the same way :p

Happiness, Sadness... What about Fear? I haven't see much Horror anime that scare me.

Oh, and another question: Why anime could hardly transparent too much emotion in just one scene, compare to literature, poem and art?

Totally made me bawl my eyes out. Misuzu's story is so heart-wrenching.

Now and Then, Here and There

I agree with aohige. It was the first anime that left me in shock, thinking, "OMG! That was totally brutal!" War and child exploitation. Yes, it's that's serious. Don't watch it unless you are willing to deal with the dark side of humanity.

Elfen Lied

Yeah, another one that is violent. But, the ending is so sweet. Made me cry.

On the other end of the spectrum there is Sketchbook ~full color's~. Absolutely delightful! So many happy feelings in that series.
