The manga launched in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2006, and the 27th compiled book volume is shipping this month. Igano is another name for Tadashi Agi, the story creator of Drops of God, GetBackers, Kindaichi Case Files, Bloody Monday, and several other popular manga titles.

Definitely looking forward to this.

like the manga so i look forward to seeing this

It is a nice change of pace to see an adaptation of a manga that has this much material out. It's honestly quite frustrating to see tons of manga adaptations that at the time have only 2 volumes or even 1 volume of source material available. Area no Kishi currently has 26 volumes published! So yeah, unless the staff of this are idiots or if the network decides to run this anime forever and ever, it could be hard to mess this up.

Nightengale 2011-09-16 02:28

Would be interesting to see how the anime handles this. The series on itself is considerably slow-paced and generally takes its sweet time when it comes to major developments for the main character. ( compared to some others )

This would need a considerable amount of episodes, me feels if it wants to at least end the series on a seasonal note that reflects the things it needs to do.

SoFarGone 2011-09-16 02:32

a lot of soccers games in this one

fertygo 2011-09-16 04:00

4 cour series like Cross Game plz.

winhlp32 2011-09-16 04:56

I myself read up to 23 volumes of this...and I can say its definitely one of the better sports manga out there. If they don't skimp on animation(its heavily action based), this could be great.

I'm hoping it will get the same treatment as Major ^^,

Not that I don't mind this getting adapted, just surprise it got chosen over Ahiru no Sora which has higher sales. Wonder why that series hasn't been turned into an anime considering Slam Dunk did so well.

MisaoFan 2011-09-16 05:37

First Giant Killing, then Softenni and Ro-Kyu-Bu!, now Knight in the Area getting sport-themed anime !

ROFL :heh:

Haven't read this, but it looks interesting. Definitely looks like it's going to need a long run to have a chance to be a successful adaptation, three cours at least.

Bonta Kun 2011-09-17 13:06

Oh wow you know I never honestly expected to see this get adaptation but I'm glad it is, probably one of my more favortie sports serious especailly concerning football at least.

Should be fun.

Haohmaru 2011-09-17 14:56

I'll stick with my baseball animes (Big Wind Up). Football is really difficult to animate, same with basketball. Wasn't a big fan of the storytelling either. That's why I dropped the manga.

kuroishinigami 2011-09-19 09:29

Well, unlike Giant Killing, this is typical shounen soccer series, with a lot of impossible move that even real star soccer player rarely use, let alone high school players. Still, pretty interesting series though. I just hope it will have good animation director because the art is one of this series good point.

MisaoFan 2011-11-11 06:15

According to Moonphase's Diary, the anime will start in January, every Saturdays at 6am (Japanese time) on TV Asahi.
