I just need to see Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso (and Ponyo and Borrower Arrietty). I've seen everything else.

Seriously can't wait to hear more of Tenmon's score for the film. Just that one piece on the short CM sends a chill down my spine.

I am really looking forward to this movie the art and colors are just beyond anything I can describe.

I wasn't a fan of 5 cm per second something about the characters didn't quite catch me. Though the art and animation was astounding!

Because it will make the audience confused.

A Miyazaki movie means usually a positive ending, safe to bring the kids. A Shinkai movie means you'll prob need Prozac after finishing it. He hasn't made a film with a positive relationship outcome since he started. (I still think that he needs to be treated for depression. He has too many films with bad relationship outcomes.) Audiences won't be amused if they expect Miyazaki and get something Anno (pre-Rebuild of Eva) would do.

That being said I am cautiously anticipating this film.

Just saying but, I hope Shinkai uses good voice actors for once.

Eh? I don't find any of Shinkai's movies particularly depressing, aside from maybe Hoshi no Koe. The place promised in our early days had a happy ending, and while 5cm per second's ending was nothing like your typical happy ending, it still ended on a rather positive (and realistic) note.

I watched the trailer and wasn't really sure what to think of the story. I love the artwork in Shinkai movies, but the stories don't make me particularly happy. I really enjoyed 5 cm per second, however, because the theme of long distance relationships breathed through the characters and the settings. The depiction felt very genuine and easy to understand; the simplicity worked surprisingly well to for what Shinkai has been striving to create. This time, I'm not that worried about the character designs sharing one or another similarity with Miyazaki's films; I'm actually worried about how he will incorporate different story elements into his creation, and still make the theme of his selection work as intended. it will be interesting to see how he fares, though.

Could've fooled me. Thought it was a Ghibli film first glance, as main hero and heroine looked like the typicla ghibli ones lol.

I rewatched 2 of them. It's the same film so it's prob not any different from your copy.



And now we have a girl traveling to "say goodbye" to a guy. I'm betting that the guy is already dead. He had progressively bad situations for the couple in his titles so there can't be any worse of a situation that this.

Oops. For some reason I thought that was the girls uniform. I forgot she used her school uniform the entire time...

Well anyway, I'd still say they're bittersweet rather than bad, if not just inconclusive.

Well back to the original point, whilst Shinkai's endings are usuaully far more more depressing than Miyakazi's, Shinkai usually ends up up giving subtle clues that there is still hope. So I don't think Miyakazi's formula and Shinkai's are completely incompatible.

Wow just wow. The visuals are simply amazing. I get the Ghibli feel that people are talking about. Having seen Shinkai's earlier works I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing a similar theme in this one as well. Really looking forward to it.
