Two requests (formerly Anime Without Women and Children)

First request:
I'm looking for some shows where children are not the main focus of the series (maybe one or two main characters under 18, so long as they are not the protagonist), and where women are rarely featured (no romance/fanservice please).
For example, Legend of the Galactic Heroes; one character under 18, maybe some babies and children very rarely seen, women barely around, no fanservice.
I also enjoyed Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files, there was only one kid and his age was a plot necessity.

No, I'm not looking for yaoi. Could be any genre (obviously not ecchi/romance), preferably sci-fi or mecha. This is a hard enough request to fill, so I'm not picky.

The second request:
Anime or manga with a protagonist who suffers from a terminal illness (or if well done enough, just a chronic illness), that is noticeable either from the start or gradually (not completely unnoticeable the whole time). I don't want something where the protagonist is perfectly healthy with a curse or some ability that using too much could/will kill them. Listing shows which I think fill this request very well might spoil some people, so I'll not do it. I don't mind being spoiled myself, though if it's very spoilery you may want to hide it so others are not spoiled.
No ecchi/romance here either, please. Also preferably not a female main character, I'm just not interested.

Try Kaiji or Akagi.

LOL @ this request, but try Cromartie High School (Since you said any genre)..It's one of my alltime fav comedies, however there is a gorilla, a robot who thinks he's a man, and a Freddy Mercury clone, but I don't remember any women or children...I'm not feeling much confidence that this is what you're looking for, but your request is like a Jeopardy answer so I had to try...

Gundam 00 has an all-male main cast, with the main out of them starting at age 16, but he's pretty mature. There are women but there's no serious romance or fanservice.
Monster has two male leads and a sort of female lead, but she's not the main focus of the story and there's no romance at all, either.
Gungrave only has two adult main leads. One of them has a girlfriend but she barely shows up in the story.

That's all I can think of for now... Tell me what you think :)

LusterFlare: some of my favorite shows!
wingdarkness: I also really enjoyed Cromartie (though they're in school). Yeah, I know this request is pretty funny.
Haladflire65: Mika ruined Gungrave. :(
Gundam 00 I haven't finished, though there are a lot of women in it, and Louise and Marina are really annoying. Monster, though, I like.

Hmm... What abot Darker than BLACK's first season? Yin might be a female but she doesn't really do much and there's no romance in it, either. There's also Misaki but she's not a romantic figure, either, and she's also a side character. Hei, an adult male, is the main show :)

Texhnolyze features a cast of primarily middle aged men. The genre is cyberpunk.

Penn 2010-01-15 20:43

Seen both.
It is unfortunate that DtB went the way of shows I'm not interested in with its second season. :(
Texhnolyze was very good, too.

I guess this is much harder than it looks, just finding an anime I haven't seen is kind of difficult, lol.

Have you seen Kuroshitsuji? The main characters are a 500-year-old demon butler (who looks 20) and his master's a 12-year-old kid who's really, really mature.

Penn 2010-01-15 21:15

I haven't finished Kuroshitsuji either, was waiting for all the eps to come out.
Though if all I have left is shows with mature 12 year olds... :(

Ciel's a really great character, though, so I don't mind him even though I hate kids in anime...

If you can take alot of gore, watch Hellsing, where there's only two very manly women and no romance at all. The lead's an adult male (vampire).

How about Mushishi, which has only one adult male and is very episodic?

Penn 2010-01-15 21:32

Seen both; well, I've read Hellsing and am watching Ultimate. I do like them, though.

Haladflire65 2010-01-15 21:42

I don't know why I'm so bent on satisfying you, but that's what I feel like doing :heh:

Ok. I want to suggest a movie. Have you seen Sword of the Stranger from BONES? There's a male lead ronin, and a kid, but I didn't hate the kid even though I generally tend to hate kids. It's a ealy grea movie with awesome action.

Penn 2010-01-15 21:52

Yeah, the kid was alright. Unfortunately I've already seen it. :heh:

wingdarkness 2010-01-16 00:31

^Hmmm, how bout Getbackers?

Penn 2010-01-16 01:13

I haven't seen that, at least. Haven't seen many long shounen shows at all, actually. Will try it eventually.

Guardian Enzo 2010-01-16 01:54

Sengoku Basara is pretty much adult male-centric in terms of characters.

Penn 2010-01-16 04:38

Except for Kasuga, who isn't very good at being clothed.
I've seen it. :(

roriconfan 2010-01-16 05:41

Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken)
Guts, Bloody Martial Arts and Manly Tears!
there are two kids present but are just decoration to the most part

Kafriel 2010-01-16 08:21

Check out Casshern SINS, the only important character is one...and you can guess his name :) There's no romance or petty jokes, it's srs buzns!
