HSI 25 - Jiromaru's Heavenly Choir

One of Sui's lines really sums up this episode. "We put the customers before ourselves." Seeing the change in attitude everyone had really cemented that. They were so focused on saving Kissuiso they forgot to save Kissuiso. The show didn't really have a narrator before, but if Jiromaru were to take over the position of full time narrator, I would not be opposed. Renaissance man and all that. Seeing the three Shijima generations working together was pretty heartwarming too. And Nako finally broke down in a way that let her express it. Though one of her lines (the dream one) triggered the part of my brain that supports creative types everywhere through rousing speeches. Alas, she is fictional, so my speeching wouldn't do much good.

Now, finaleward!

Okay, this was pretty quickly resolved. A good slap, a good shout, a good reminder to everyone what is it that everyone is here for.

Now, how will the final episode end? I don't like that last line in the preview though. For once, I hope it's a troll.

Spoiler for preview:

BTW, where's Ko? Wasn't he supposed to be here for the festival?

Nice of Satsuki to help out. Did she foresee how thoroughly overwhelmed they'd be?

ZGMF-X10A 2011-09-18 10:49

can't wait until next week, looks like Ohana finally going to tell Kou her feelings

I think there was a shot of him arriving during the last montage, but his face was hidden so it's hard to tell. I was surprised that he didn't come with Satsuki, though.

I can't believe Nako and Ohana were the only ones to realize Enishi is an idiot. Have the other characters been watching a totally different show for the 24 episodes?

Well, they were too caught up in their own idiocy to realize that agreeing with him was a bad, bad sign.

Thinking about it - I though Satsuki was damn shameless for dumping her kid on a family she ran away from years ago. But lately, she's really delivered.

Kanon 2011-09-18 11:26

Nako saves the day. I told you she was the best character in this show! I'm glad she finally got the opportunity to speak her mind.

It was pretty impressive how fast Enishi destroyed the "soul" of Kissuiso and the crushed the morale of his employees. It truly might be for the better to close down the inn right now rather than condemn it to a slow and painful death at Enishi's hands.

I really enjoyed watching the three generations work together side by side. I wish Satsuki would change her mind about inheriting the inn, but alas, this isn't likely to happen.

lol he even got slapped by his wife, that says pretty much everything.
running a business is no easy task and trying to "change" the inn by his method could have broken the trust of all those old customers.

Yea, that was really nice to see. Satsuki imo had the most growth in the series, loved to see her back :)

germanturkey 2011-09-18 13:17

most useless character award goes to Enishi.

sikvod00 2011-09-18 13:19

^ Seriously. They just keep piling on his pitiful ass...it's really annoying.

Oy, oy, why are you putting everything on him? He got slapped for refusing his sister's help, which, yeah, he wasn't in position to do.

But the changes? Everyone but Sui and Ohana were for it, at least as a stopgap measure. Their root was that he'd accepted more reservations than they could take care of the usual way. But:
- it actually worked for some customers. Maybe not for everyone, but it wasn't catastrophic.
- They were fully staffed. In fact, they had two more employees than when before Ohana arrived, and Minko had grown competent enough to help. So how come they couldn't take care of things, even with a fully booked inn? That's got to be an old problem. Older than Sui's decision to close down.

He's a bad leader, because, when the pressure was on, and Tomoe and Ren started to fight, he broke down himself instead of giving his employees direction. And, yes, because he failed to foresee the problems that'd come with so many customers. But hell, Sui isn't perfect either.

Unfortunately a fairly second-rate episode. But one scene made up for everything: Okami-san with her daughter and granddaughter walking down the hall as waitresses together. Almost got tears in my eyes.

I don't blame the staff for stupidly following Enishi, since he is the heir, after all, and no-one else is telling them that they can save the Inn. But there is no way he would be able to run the inn successfully, even with the help of his wife. His sister, on the other hand, and her daughter.... This isn't going to happen, but with her record of poor choices, Ohana's mom could fall for the novelist.

Ohana saying her "I love you" line in the preview could be a troll: maybe she's saying she loves the Inn, not that she loves Kou. Although I think she thinks she does love Kou.

Agreed, maybe Nako or even Minko.

She could be his muse. Get him out of the underage high-school girl fetish and have him write porn about sexy MILFs.

ookamigirl 2011-09-18 14:55

Business still booming but that's sure taking its toll.
Kissuiso is slowly changing and Ohana is feeling nostalgic about how it was before.
Guess they can't handle the load. Way too much work, but the intentions were good.
Understaffed, overworked, barely managing..
Ookami-san, even Ohana's mom, everyone pitched in, it was kinda nice.
Even managed going to the Bonbori Festival, talk about running on reserve power..

Triple_R 2011-09-18 15:05

That was a very well-done episode, with good drama and suspense, and conflicts that felt real and sincere.

It was good to see Ohana placed in a position where determining the right thing to do is much more difficult than what it usually is for her.

Right after watching this episode, I actually felt it was a mild victory for Enishi. I mean, both his mother and his sister basically said to him "You take the lead". I think they really are giving him one last chance, and in their eyes, he hasn't completely bungled it yet and so that chance is still there for now.

That being said, I do get the critiques of Enishi that others on this thread have made. He's a very poor planner, and that's something he'll really need to work on if he ends up inheriting the Inn from his mother.

One thing I'm pretty convinced of now - The Kissuiso won't be closing.

The only question is who's going to get it. Partly because of those critiques of Enishi that I'm reading on this thread, I'm starting to seriously think that Sui will bypass Enishi and give the Inn to Ohana.

A Kissuiso/Ohana/Ko end looks increasingly likely to me right now. It would likely feel a bit rushed, but I do see the possible symbolic and thematic strength of it (Ohana/Ko being the latter-day equivalent of Sui/her husband).

Ohana, who has no management experience.

And, while they may not respect Enishi very much, but they accept him as the heir to the inn. Ohana doesn't even have that.

The more I watch that inn, the more I think that what they really need is for Minami from Moshidora to pay them a visit. She'd set things straight.

^ I second this. Sad really.

How much Nako's developed throughout the series was splendid; it's too bad I can't say the same about Enishi. This episode seems to be an example on how Enishi just might not be a good candidate for manager. But, I'm sure that doesn't mean he can't improve of course.

I'm very eager to see the finale, especially since a majority of it will focus on OhanaxKo.

vansonbee 2011-09-18 16:01

I cannot picture Sui handing the Inn to Ohana, like Anh stated, she lacks the experience for management, the only way Ohana is inheriting the Inn is, if Enishi is shooting blanks inside of Takako. :p

Enishi has one certain characterization that all viewers would except as fact, that he's a big failure, but each situation that occurs, will make him a better a person, to become the heir.

Misc stuff:
Minko was irritating again with her same attitude, she such a one dimensional tsundere, she is highest tier in the spectrum of tsundere!!!!! :frustrated:

Can't believe the employee gang up on Ohana, she didn't even what the heck was going on at first.

No KO? One more episode? Best for last? How anti-climax ending can this show provide??? :eyespin:
