Dragon Quest: Dai's Adventure (Dai no boken)

Any group planning on picking this up, or even subbing it right now?

I've never even heard of it... What type of anime is it? Do you have any links to pics or a description of it or it's genres?

is this supposed to be based on the games?

NeverRamza 2004-01-22 17:34

My old group did the first four episodes of it a long while back. Well timed and translated scripts for 1-4 are up at scriptclub.org if anyone wants to pick the series up and use them.

this was in english on TV at one point if I remember correctly.

Yes, this series is licenced. The whole dragon quest series is. Sorry, no fansubs gonna be out for it. But it is available on Amazon. :)

yeah i figured it was, but i wasn't to sure nor did i care enough. From what I remember of the series it's not too great. It's more geared toward 6-12 yr olds and lacks plot as did the games.

This is not true. There is no licensed Dragon Quest anime. The first 13 episodes of the first series (not Dai no Daibouken) were dubbed by Saban about 10-15 years ago they have since lost the license. It was never released in any form on home video. The second series has never been touched by any commercial company at any time.

Fansubs can exist!

yeap, the one out on tv was the first season, and a different story altogether, char design by toriyama (you can see a goku style hair haha). The second season is this one, and it was the best manga i've ever read. hopefully someone will pick it up, or tell me where to get raws for subbing -- although at 46 ep only, and a 1991 anime, i'm not sure if it will do justice to the wonders its manga have done

First episode raw:

The quality could use some help though.

We'll sub it.

Let me tell you this. From 1993-1998 there was an expanding boom of anime demand in México, airing in local TV channels just a few years before the popularity of cable TV channels finally reached the Mexican TV stations.

One of the many imported anime titles which ended being dubbed and broadcasted in my country was nonetheless than Dai no DaiBouken.

However, they translated the title to "Las Aventuras de Fly" or "Flys' Adventures".
Dai's name was renamed to Fly in the Spanish dub just as other characters' names were also renamed. Bad idea

Anyways they keep all the content intact: action, the jokes, the fights, the blood and violence without no kind of editing or censorship at all.

They also kept the opening and ending themes unscathed too.

Dai no DaiBouken aired in Mexican TV's about May of 1995 by TV Azteca station.
It no longer airs since 1998, but as always TV Azteca kept the license and has not bother to even renew it.

I also loved this anime, but the sad things were that it only lasted up to 46 episodes and the end of the anime is not the ending of the story. The story continues in the manga all the way up to volume 31, unfortunately, with a sad ending.
For those who happened to fully read the manga, you know what I mean.

Could someone seed the raw? :heh:

Btw, this series is an old one, correct? 1991ish?

NeverRamza 2004-09-30 03:35

Been seeding for a little while now.

Yeah, it's pretty old. Reminds me of original Dragon Ball.

Soulfang 2004-09-30 03:47

We actually had Episode 1 complete of it. A shame, really. Didn't want to release because we didn't have raws past it. I can tell you right now -- that raw is a VHS rip, originally at 320x240, enlarged and heavily filtered.

i see... that's why i was wondering, the book was 31 volume, and 46 episodes is just not enough. Either way, i'll still want to watch it as an anime! fansubbers pick this!!
