Circumstantial at best; we never seen her anywhere but the club, secondly she certainly have no problem getting along with people she had just met so I have no idea what social awkwardness you're picking up. Thirdly, what's wrong with the club members being her friends?

And as for your 'proof', how does being nervous and embarrass prove anything given that we don't know what she's about to say and hence the reason for her being nervous?

Arturia Polaris 2012-05-05 11:04

I define Chitanda's social awkwardness as to calling Oreki on sunday morning, Not being able to respectfully keep her distance ( might play a bit with her character being childish ) as she basically goes private-space-lol-wat on Oreki all the time. She also doesn't respect Oreki's decisions and always drags him around, playfully jabbed at by KyoAni with the "menu" scene in ep 2.

Regarding the club members being her friends I have no problem with that, I was just wondering that it's as though this girl dropped out of a plane into the scenario. Oreki has his friend, who in turn knows the librarian aide. Chitanda? Just out of nowhere dropped into the Classics club.

That's stretching the term quite abit.

By your definition, you could just as easily claim that Oreki's friends were 'dropped into this scenario' to fill out the space seeing as how they just 'suddenly' appeared.

But I have an easier answer- It's just the second episode.

I'm just thinking out loud. I mean, a girl who's smart and cute and heir to a powerful rising family just doesn't strike me as the one Chitanda is.

But that's just my 2 cents. Now to wait for Mazui to quicksub ep 3 T.T

I know a bunch of rich friends and trust me, almost all of them like to keep a low profile.

But, like you've said, it's your thoughts so I'm just gonna drop this.

Well they aren't exactly in a big city. If is the right Kamiyama, look here.

I think that Eru's family is in farming from what got bantied about in the thread and ep 1 so that may have something to do with her personality. Not Wall Street stuff here.

The story takes place in Takayama, with a population of about 92,000. The Kamiyama High School in the story is a fictional school, based on the actual Hida High School in Takayama. Google Map link here.

I love how the OP shows the same school as the one shown on the google maps :D

In any case, how long before ep 3?

Isn't it cool? Also, notice that in the OP, they added the old building that Eru was looking at in the first episode. So I think that building could be a big plot point.

The third episode should air on Sunday, 2400 hours Japan time, 1500 hours UTC. Raws get released about 3-5 hours later.

It's still rural and not large in comparison to the top 100.

Ithekro 2012-05-05 13:14

"Rural", but not Hinamizawa rural.

They did the same thing with K-On: took a real school as the basis for their fictional one. Pretty cool if you ask me :)

felix 2012-05-05 16:54

It's not that uncommon really. Many other anime have done the whole "real life anime version" when it comes to buildings and even places (eg. Sora no Woto).

Arturia Polaris 2012-05-05 17:02

I saw a few places referenced in Hanasaku Iroha as well, but they were mainly small scenes. The OP shows the school while you are zooming out and turning, and the buildings are exactly where they are in the google maps. Just a teeny detail that I found great.

Details make the bigger picture.

On every KyoAni/Kadokawa release except Lucky Star and Fumoffu, there has been a video extra detailing the location scouting the staff performed for creation of the various places in the anime.

Many other shows are starting to use real-life equivalents to produce backgrounds and small items. Your example of Hanasaku Iroha details where they found items during location scouting as well as having a feature showing some clips/images on the 5th BD/DVD. The island of Enoshima will be featured twice this year: once in the currently airing Tsuritama and again in summer with Tari Tari.

I took the step of reading some of the light novel source.... yeah I'll be sticking with the series. Something somewhat playful and relaxing beckons...

Daniel E. 2012-05-05 21:58

I enjoyed the first two episodes and I'll also stick around to watch some more.

Houtarou: ''Eh?''

----------------!

Houtarou: ''W-what just happened ... I'm so dizzy and tired ...''

Eru: ''~ ''

Ands that the reason why I never go out to give blood with my girlfriend.

That said, I wonder why is it that Eru is so ... easy going around Houtarou. She's been acting like she had known him since they were still in the cradle. Really, that scene in the library where she was just sticking to him was so unusual for a girl to do.

That ... actually makes a whole lot of sense. I really like this theory :D

Maybe she does...

*Evil grin*

Niker

EDIT: Wait, that kind of puts the whole ED thing in perspective. Maybe she DOES know him... Wat ( I had meant it as a joke )

rulfo 2012-05-05 23:12

Dat chapter 7..... :heh:

Can't wait to see what they'll do with this on Ep 5. Though this ep will be handled by Kigami though. Kinda wished Takemoto was the one who handled it. :D
