Victory Gundam Discussion [spoilers]

I haven't seen it yet, so I can't tell you if it's any good, but I can explain the torrent thingy.

The group which releases V Gundam, Anime SkyScraper, had already released the series up to episode 40. They then started to release the episodes after 40 in Xvid, and they decided to re-encode the first 40 episodes in Xvid as well.
Episode 01-10 are re-releases of the first 10 episodes, and 41-51 are new releases.

V Gundam is one of the bloodiest Gundams and as such many consider it to be an excellent show. It was also one of the more unpopular ones in Japan, but that's beyond the point.

Did Anime Sky Scrapper really fansubbed Victory Gundam or they only ripped the Hong Kong DVDs ? I seem to remember someone said they ripped the HK DVDs, but made corrections. If it's so, how good was the final product ?

They ripped the HK DVDs, but fixed and edited all the scripts so that the translations make sense (so it's nothing like those Macross 7 rips). There are still some problems with some of the sentences, but I'd say that this is about as good as, say, an average AJ script.

The video quality is only average though, but it's good enough considering the fact that the other groups subbing it are releasing it at a horrendously slow pace, though doing a much higher quality version.

They don't have a time set for when they're doing them.

Trying to get their first versions of the episodes isn't fun either as their IRC distribution is awful.

Next to none of their serving people have the full set of episodes (most people in their channel seem to prefer serving licensed rips  ) and the ones that do are near impossible to get into.

It's just a shame no real fansub groups are doing Victory.

MSG&Anime-Gundam is doing Victory... As far as I know that one's a fansub... The problem is that it's taking them 6 months or something to release one episode... :hmm: (MSG is no fansubber but Anime-Gundam is--they were one of the three groups that did the high quality "Seed-Fansubs" version of Gundam Seed, and they're doing a HQ version of Turn A Gundam too, and that one's averaging an episode a month)

Cage 2004-01-22 15:58

it gives me sound but it doesnt let me see the episodes whts going on?

ElvenPath 2004-02-20 13:44

IMHO, Victory is great

Once you get past the rather simple character and mecha design, the story is outstanding. It's grim and bloody. The death count amounst characters is quite high, and our hero (clocking in at 13, making him the youngest Gundam anime hero) has to take it all.

Well, rumors said that when Tomino doing this chapter of Gundam, he is suffering from depression. I do not know whether it is true or not.

It's true, technically. The plot of each Gundam Series that Tomino directs reflects his mood. My only gripe is how in the world did he kill off the entire Shrike Team like that.
