Don't get me wrong, Lelouch is destined to die and Suzaku had long foreseen to have a bad ending. That is very clear since day one. What baffles me is the ending of the black knight member. Karen's ending is totally understandable, but I simply can't see why Ougi and Tamaki can have a good ending, Ougi more or less betray Lelouch because he is shacking Villeta and Tamaki is simply an idiot, while the horonable 4 saint sword die miserably. If Lelouch show the rest of the black knight that Ougi is shacking Villeta, Ougi will be purged as well, and since there are no roro with Ougi, Ougi will get shoot like a bee hive.

In a romantic story, we usually see the main character fight against all odds to be with the one they love. They might be tempted to take the easy route but at the end they always have the courage to face their real emotion. Not in the case with with H&C, Hagu clearly say that she likes Morita, but she choose to be with Shinji becaue that is an easier way (Shinji will take care of her because he dont have any ambition, while Morita is different).


And finally, don't get me wrong, I am not saying these ending are unrealistic, as there are horrible people in real life live a wonderful life and good people live a shitty live. But as a fictional story? Are we going to celebrate the ones like Ougi and Tamaki ? Shall we follow what Hagu do? when things are tough take the easy way out?

It was rather dark for the entire second half, but it then decided to end with one of the most ridiculously happy endings I've ever seen.

Don't get me wrong - I figured Mai HiME wasn't so dark as to have an actual "bad" ending, but the way it turned its tone completely on its head for the last episode was just astounding. Everybody being so cool with each other after they had spent the previous dozen or so episodes brutalizing each other was genuinely facepalm-worthy, in my opinion. This is especially true for Nao and Shizuru.

...And it's not just because Daikichi doesn't end up with Kouta's hot mom. Real creepy stuff.

Not only i hate the ending, but the ending is very illogical and makes me really baffled.I have watched the series till the end.The beginning is really good because they actually have the terrorist thing trying to take japan(yes, same as code geass) and the powers and concept are unique,the art and visuals are incredible and the soundtrack is stunning.But when it comes at the middle,it started losing any sense.I mean the whole theme in the beginning was they are terrorists who is being vigilant and trying to take japan but at the middle,its starting to stray on the original plot and just focus really,really much on the romance instead.As it proceeds through the end,they literally really strayed to the original plot.The whole taking-back-their-country thing was nothing more than a tease.Yeah,sure japan was freed but not by the main characters themselves.What's worse is they made the MC to live in the end after all f*cked up things that happens to him.The point of a martyr is that you die at the end.You don't burden yourself with the entire world's cancer and then survive a building collapsing on top of you.

The twins' fate were never told. Most people thought they survived the ordeal but this blogger have an interesting theory why they died. I am one of the "dead" supporter although it is pretty same regardless of their fate, both ended with their happiness, which I may never see again.

What? Well, tons of people died and the curse isn't really solved or explained and some random plot solution happened but since those two get to run off together, it's all good!

It almost feels like they went off the deep end and wanted to backtrack. But the manner in what it was done, makes me feel the intent was extremely unclear. I understand that they didn't want something so grim dark, but this results in a massive Karma Houdini where people simply get away for what they did.

They seem to have run out of color at the end, and I wish I could tell you more, but the visuals were the most comprehensible thing about the ending, and that is not a compliment. :heh:

Yeah. What the hell happened in the last 2 chapters? I failed to see how they connect to the story beforehand at all. It's like the author had something set up and went "screw this shit".

The first problem with the ending is that it contradicts the sense of free will the series has presented with its characters. Every other arc in Clannad was concluded by someone's own hands while After Story's conclusion was an outside event. Supernatural forces existed prior but it was all on the characters; Fuko and the cat at the top of my head. Whatever sense of independence the series had built falls apart. Tomoya made the wish to go back in time but at no other point in the show did simply wishing make something so convenient.

Yet the biggest insult with the "reset" is that Tomoya's development was effectively a dream. What he remembers is moot if nobody else involved in how he changed recalls what had happened.

Was there any point in killing off Ushio? Honestly, the Illusory World shenanigans could have been removed and nothing of value is lost. Clannad After Story was seriously on the verge of communicating a fantastic life lesson from episode 16 onward but didn't know when to stop with the drama.

By the way, if someone tells me the Visual Novel had a different message then thanks. It's always a good idea to bring "meta" material into discussion about an adaptation.:rolleyes:

You are referring to the "marrying father" ending? You know Japanese are crazy about the Hikaru Genji plan, right? In the well known game "Princess Maker" from the 90s, while the aim of the game is to marry your (adopted) daughter to a prince (thus princess maker), most player ultimate goal is to obtain the "marrying father (the player) ending.

To me the creator had two things set in the beginning: had the himes fight each other, and at the end cooperate and fight the big bad. However, they go too far on the hime fighting one and other and is clueless to make them cooperate without baffling us.

Aside from the deux ex machina about it, I was always unable to accept the lack of closure for everyone else. Clannad is about family, yes, but it's also about the people around them and the goodwill that allowed Tomoya and Nagisa to get together. By not giving the other characters much heed, they are ignoring the core of what made Clannad in the first place. I mean sure, as you grow up, friends grow more distant, but the audience deserves more. So, how can a show that has built up this so much and so well end up completely ignoring this in the most important part? I mean, those orbs of light wouldn't be possible unless...

Yes, it trying to go into that would have delved into anime original territory, but at the same time I feel that the combined path method for the series became a double edged sword and because the anime had to become its own story through this method, that the original ending even if perfectly adapted in and of itself is thematically incompatible with the build up.

And ultimately, it's baffling because it effectively contradicts everything the show had gotten us to cherish. That actually hurts the story to me more than the supernatural element.

Undid certain things that I feel shouldn't have happened in the first place. That's not a justification. It just makes me feel better.
