Well, I read the first chapter and comparing it to the anime, I'm not liking it much. The feeling it gives is...shoujo-ish, and Ko wasn't in it. I'm not sure i would have continued reading even if I'd never seen the anime.

Kou was featured in one panel with his back faced to the reader.

The first volume covers the events of the first three episodes, but it drags out ep 1 a bit long and cuts Jiromaru's story to a short and even more uneventful chapter. No nutter chase scene though.

The hostility between Ohana and Minko seems to have been relegated to an overreaction over Tohru..., and her mother's even more marginalized than before. They cut out some scenes and dumbed down some interactions that really built characters in the anime.

HanaIro manga ch. 3 just out scanlated.

Great TooruxOhana moment. T´was awesome. xDD

Only thing I don't really like about the manga is the chibis. And ummm, the plot differs a bit from the anime.

Just had a read of what was on the manga. Some thoughts:

Not a fan of the artstyle.
Ohana is quite clumsy and airheaded in it :heh:
Grandma is awesome though, stricter than she was in the anime.
And lol at hinting Ohana x Tooru from the very start.
Minko is the same as the Minko in the anime...
Lots of anime/manga cliches in here - like the bad looking cooking tasting good, and the denial between Ohana and Tooru.

However, it was a decent read. Agreed that anime is generally better though.

The anime is a lot more detailed and better art while the manga is cute but both art and story not as detailed.

Everyone's a chibi D:

Well, the anime does win in many aspects, but the manga is still somewhat interesting. Let's give it credit for that. xD

Did I read the wrong manga? Hanasaku Iroha manga is really different from the anime.

Minko is much less annoyed. Nako does not stand out as much. Tooru is not quite as cold. And Ohana is like a different character...

Eh, not sure if I'll follow this. It seems like a pretty watered down version of the show, in both art and story.

risingstar3110 2011-06-20 03:41

The whole car chase was toned down through, and once again Minchi is not so annoyed, why Nako is much more shy

Mostly comedy rather than the dramatic tone in the anime

Minko is getting her own spin-off manga

I would definitely read that. The art style's kind of weird though.

So many yuri undertones and it seems Ohana hasn't shown up yet

Seriously though. Looks like Ohana will appear as a love rival.. but to who?

I take back what I said about the art. It actually looks more like the anime than the original manga.
Minko looks significantly more different though. Did she get super bishoujo-fied? xD

icatero 2011-08-01 18:56

The new chapter came out today and.. there's so much shiptease in it. Nako imagining Minko in the waitress uniform?
