I could still stomach the fact that Louise and Saito was dragged back to her family by Elenor for some random reason (they didn't like the idea of students being trained or something), as opposed to the novel, where Louise and Saito returned to the La Valliere homeland to formally obtain permission to join the war effort (which, by the way, is still unmentioned in the anime). But some of the original contents just plain annoyed me.

My biggest beef has to do with how they made Siesta lie and say "Saito-san asked me to come here" when Louise questioned her on why she was in Saito's room. In other words, Siesta dropped the blame on Saito to take the heat off of herself.
Good job for making Siesta a bitch in the anime, Mr. script writer. Even though Siesta did some pretty bold things in the novel, she never went as low as this.

And I don't see why they couldn't have done the comedy scenes from the novel (ie. Siesta confronting Louise about the "chest size issue", or Siesta's explosive comments when she got drunk), instead of making up some predictable same-olds.

There are positives, such as the anime's portrayal of Kattleya and Elenor, which depicted their personalities perfectly. The boat confession scene in the end was also almost a direct lift out of the novel (besides the scene being much more brief and the boat's incredible drifting speed :heh: )

I actually agree with Sushi-Y, though I am far fom being Siesta's fan some more moments of her wouldn't have hurt also showig a little bit serious side to all this...

Now they are still trying to turn it into nothing more but comedy, which isnt that bad as the first season was nothing more but that but for that they will need to change the whole Zero No Tsukaima so drastically (as it gets more and more serious as the series goes) that you will not recognize it...

More so the actual novel bits won't suit in the anime at all (like episode 2) because it will feel too serious and too sudden, while it is nothing like that in Novels, in anime's silly and dumbed down version of it it will see somehow not right.

I would still give it 9 as I have actually expected them to do worse (No I have not much hope in JC Staff, specially after mediocre first season), so it wasn't that bad as I expected, yet not as good as it could be.

As for the anime's direction, I agree it's going off on another vector. The mood at around this point of the story (mid volume 6) became very serious as the war commenced, and rightfully so: it's a war between two great nations, after all. The atmosphere is tense everywhere. It gets even heavier as the story moves to the front lines. Of course, the comedy still remains, but the novel has always done a good job toning those down when seriousness is called for. So far, I haven't seen much of this in the anime.

I guess the anime was designed with lightheartness in mind, so I won't blame them if this is the direction they choose to go. But I really don't want to see this turn into another Higurashi season 1.

I guess the Louise+Siesta kiss makes up for the Louise+Agnes kiss in the novel. :heh:
