Spoiler for ep17:
Aah.......
Finally we get out of the love comedy and back to the war... Well, to be a bit more correct, only 7 minutes or so on the war. The rest was a large build up filled with death flags...
Also, I guess it is because there was no focus ever on the minor characters on the squad, but it was pretty sudden seeing ED go tsundere on whoever that boy is...
And in the meantime, Ramal and his love story... Is................................................ ...................................... Yeah, hahahahaha...
Nothing on Alicia and Welkin, though. Bad atmosphere all around, Faldio getting all of the goods.
A stupid...! RANDOM! GRUNT! Kills Isara, of all things! Blasphemy!... :frustrated:
Yet no one gets killed at all during that rush towards the anime. As expected of anime! Anime!!
Well, it was a good episode. Can't give it a 10/10 because of the shock at the end though...

This is an episode many of us have dreaded, but here it is. And for what it's worth, this episode was GOOD.
Spoiler for Episode 17:
Every member of Squad Seven gets at least one line in this episode. That's VERY welcome, and we also get some small looks at some of the individual Sevens. An example is Emile Bielert, and his love of art.
The militia is sent to Marberry Beach, which is dreadfully reminiscent of the Beaches of Normandy. I've never been there, but you get the idea.
We get yet another glimpse of the corrupt politics in the Gallian government. It even makes Welkin think that the medal he received may be tainted (in a sense).
Alicia is still in a tizzy over her relationships with Welkin and Faldio. It gets so bad that she ends up burning her bread (again), and burns her hands while trying to remove her burning pot from a fire. Faldio comes to help her, and we learn that Alicia is a VERY fast healer.
I lol'd so hard at the Feast of All Spirits scene. Jann gets a leopard thong for Largo (how deliciously gay), and Edy gets something for Homer, blushing all the while. I guess the creators feel the Edy/Homer pairing is canon. Yay!:D
For his gift, Faldio gives back the Ragnite crystal to Alicia. Welkin sees this, and you can tell he's jealous.
Finally, Ramal got some balls, and managed to give Isara a necklace. As if that weren't a subtle enough hint...
Isara makes a good luck doll for Rosie, which she hesitantly accepts. But she doesn't really keep a close eye on it, and drops it when Squad Seven assaults the beachhead. This almost ends up getting Rosie sniped, though she takes a grazing hit to her shoulder.
The battle for Marberry is pretty dang good, though it was over too fast for my tastes.
This is what we were all dreading from the start of this episode...
Spoiler for ...:
Isara is gone. One second, one shot. Gone, at the bat of an eyelash.
I won't lie: I cried at this scene.
This will easily rank as one of VC's best episodes. The diversity of character usage, a good battle, and a tragic ending sequence, all with great animation and art design. Perfection.
Spoiler for Next Episode:
This episode looks like it'll give a lot more attention to Squad Seven's non-main members, especially the Bielert brothers. And it looks like things are tense due to what happened today...
Looks like the first in many of outspoken acts of hatred against General Damon. About damn time, Rosie. I hope you at least break his nose.
Beyond that, I can't really say what else is happening.
Now excuse me... I have some mourning to do...

well.... this is utter crap..
Spoiler:
they even get to get wrong one of the most painfull moments in the game, no last words? only rosie there....to witness her death.... a big F U to the writters. Ha and so her dream goes unmentioned... so the GAR moment at the end of the game will not appear in the anime....
on a good note got to love edy... :heh:

I'm surprised they didn't have Faldio saving the day so he could add to his Harem.

Maybe he'll add necrophilia to his many credentials...

Nah. Then he'd look evil.
He'll pull a Team Medical Dragon on Isara and bring her back to life through his amazing surgical techniques, and she will only call Faldio Nii-san from now on, having forgotten all about Welkin!

Was the cause of Isara's death as contrived as what happened in the game?

Bummer, I might have not bin much of a Isara fan, but still she was cute and the only innocent character in this anime.
I hope Welkin will mature after this.

Spoiler for SPOILERS:
The cause of death is pretty much the same, so I suppose you can call it artificial; however, it's executed a lot better in the game, so it doesn't feel that way in my opinion.
But anyways, I'm not all that satisfied with how they handled Isara's death in the anime, which fails to surprise me anymore. It was the only reason I was following the anime, and now I have no other reason to continue watching. The shock value wasn't there (and that's not only because I've played the game), the emotion wasn't there, and I honestly don't think it was a good idea to end the episode at her deathbed. It... just didn't feel right. If her death allows Welkin to grow next episode, then it may not have been a total loss, but I'm not expecting very much anymore...

I have to disagree. It was not good. Emotions regarding that particular scene were not there. Definitely not touching the same emotional depths as it did in the game. The fact was sad, and maybe thats what made you cry, but the execution was pretty poor.

Spoiler for That scene:
Maybe they just split Isara's death scene into two parts?
First part (in the last scene of EP 17) - Isara is shot
Second part (I don't know, maybe in the first part of EP 18) - Isara's last will, Isara's death
