The information from the people who went to the fan meeting tonight (Dec 15th):
Higurashi Outbreak will be animated.

Edit:

a related short story, "Higurashi Outbreak", was included in the original soundtrack of the game (from Wikipedia)
I bet no ones here have ever heard about this tittle before this news.
I knew it last year when got the album, but... this's really a shock.

Updates:
The news is out:
Mantan-Web - AnimeNewsNetwork

Displayed in 2013 spring season.
And it will be a movie, not OVA.

The new series tittle:
「ひぐらしのなく頃に 拡」 アウトブレイク
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku - Outbreak

TheGuraGuraMan 2012-12-15 10:14

OMG I was dead sure they stopped.

Oh god please make something good.

GabrieliosP 2012-12-15 10:42

As long as it isn't like Kira's fanservice episodes (the MionxKeiichi one and the last one were good, though) I'm happy.

Daisu 2012-12-15 10:50

Maybe you should post it in the upcomming anime section of animesukie, so we can talk about it since our forum clearly lacks even a basic general higurashi discussion thread.

I do not think I read outbreak, but I was hoping they add Natsumi kimiyoshi soon, there enough material of her stories to make an anime.

GabrieliosP 2012-12-15 10:59

I'd watch the heck out of a Onisarashi-hen and related arcs OVA.

WarriorKK 2012-12-15 11:36

I haven't read Outbreak too.

According to the news, the story is still at Hinamizawa 1983.
But the village is sealed off by a mysterious virus, Keiichi and Rena fight againts it... (Kei-Rena again...)

Edit: I got wrong. Fixed

Joly 2012-12-15 12:42

I checked another site and they say the name of the OVA(?) series is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku?

TheGuraGuraMan 2012-12-15 13:04

So it should at least keep the quality of Kira for the animation.

Joly 2012-12-15 13:06

I hope they keep Kira's character designer for this or bring back Sakai Kyuuta. (Or someone even better?)

GabrieliosP 2012-12-15 13:11

Rei had the best character design. Kira is decent, but their hands and feet are too small. Rei character design + Kira animation quality = WIN.

I wasn't sure how they spell that character. Kai and Rei is on-yomi (reading of kanji), but Kira is kun-yomi (Japanese reading of character)...
So, "Hiro" is kun-yomi (seems wrong) and "Kaku" is on-yomi.

<<Reading Outbreak...>>

Edit: Looking at the twitter image on that site. It seems this anime will be a movie, not OVA.

I have my theories on how an animated film of Higurashi would be possible, or dare I even say feasible, but I'll hold my tongue (and uh....fingers) until there is more information.

GabrieliosP 2012-12-16 08:22

There were live action films, so animated ones might be possible.

Klashikari 2012-12-16 09:16

I personnally hope they will just do something less pandering, thus the design used for Kai/Nekogoroshi.
Frankly, proportions and texture went downhill starting in Rei, and Kira was quite subpar in design and animation, with a gross focus on fanservice.

That said, I wish they could simply let the franchise alone. The way how they are milking it is beyond silly.

I soo agree. They should let Higurashi END , or just remake the whole anime orr Give us animated Manga/PS2/DS arcs , I don't really want to watch Fillers... >< (But I probably will still watch it lol, its Higurashi..How can you not watch it :D )

TheGuraGuraMan 2012-12-16 15:33

I wish they would do like Hellsing, OAV remakes of the original arcs, but in great quality and who respect the story.

Actually, the better comparison would be with Garden of Sinners, since that was a series of OVA's with ridiculous budgets, and each OVA told an entire story arc.

*Imagines Garden of Sinner's/Umineko's animation team on a Higurashi remake*

Too bad imagining is the closest we'll ever get to that.

Daisu 2012-12-17 10:03

There is good stories out there. If continuing higurashi, they should continue with the horrific stories rather then the fanservice ones.

Correction, those weren't OVA's but movies.

TheGuraGuraMan 2012-12-17 16:28

A movie of 2 hours could be great for the three first arcs, so it would mean 6 ep instead of the 4 of the anime. And I don't think it would be Deen who would do it if it's not an Anime. Or at least, I hope.
