#Sendai #Iwate #Guam and #Japan are trending right up on Twitter. No joke either, so anyone living nearby will have to prepare immediately. Apart from the news agencies, please check up with USGS, NOAA and other disaster management agencies in your localities for further details.

Please edit title, it's officially 8.9

Please pray for the people in Japan.....

P.S. QB, you are responsible for this mess.

Actually it is since domestic news only reports of a 7.8.
The epi-center is in the Tohoku region, in northern part of Miyagi prefecture.
At the moment there are no fatalities reported but some fire and part of a roof fell injuring three.
The trains are all suspended at the moment but is believed to restart as soon as they confirmed safety of the tracks.

BBOvenGuy 2011-03-11 02:25

And a tsunami, too. Looks bad. :upset:

Of 20Cm.
It was first reported that tsunami could reach 6M but as far as the coastal lines reported in it was not going to be a threat.

Here is the epi-center.

= Edit =
I am still feeling aftershocks about once every thirty minutes but it was that bad here in Tokyo where it hit 6 on the Richter scale.

Isegrim 2011-03-11 02:33

Further information about magnitude and tsunami warnings at the JMA.

Tri-ring 2011-03-11 02:39

Correction
A tsunami of 7.3M hit Soma port at 3:50PM LST.

= Edit =
Magnitude has been revised to 8.4.

BBOvenGuy 2011-03-11 02:43

The tsunami is heading out across the Pacific. They're even warning Australia and Hawaii about it.

kaizerknight01 2011-03-11 02:44

watched the news its pretty bad ..... I hope most the people there are alright

yakisobapan 2011-03-11 02:52

Japanese TV is reporting of various fatalities across the country and dozens of missing people.
Judging from some of the footage I've seen where cars and trucks were just swept away by the water masses, I'll be surprised if there'll be even more fatalities.

Didn't shake much at my place in Kyoto, although my gf went to Tokyo for a live show (talk about bad timing) so I was very worried. She seems to be alright and taking shelter now, so I'm calm at the moment.
I'm still worried about the family of my best friend here who lives in Sendai though....

Taufiq91 2011-03-11 02:55

All internet activities are still resuming as normal. Though the speeds might be affected.

Spoke to my friends in Tokyo on FB. Seems that they can still communicate via the web, thank God.

Though i'm trying to see whether it will affect the airings of index II, Star Driver, Bakuman and Beelzebub this weekend.

my thoughts and Prayers are to the victims and residents of Japan affected by this earthquake.

Tyabann 2011-03-11 03:04

Japan, unlike Haiti, is more than well-prepared for this sort of thing.

I don't think anime is in any danger, though people in the countryside certainly are.

Tri-ring 2011-03-11 03:05

Some ports on the pacific rim near the epi-center has been flooded by the tsunami and homes near the shores had been either washed away or fire broke out.
Fire broke out at various chemical plants and most nuclear power plants on the pacific rim had scram stopped but there is no radioactive leakage.

j0x 2011-03-11 03:07

damn i just heard this news, so this might be the Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (and it has an anime too) the japanese seismologist are predicting, tsk tsk, hope for less casualties although i know its only wishful thinking at this point

Tri-ring 2011-03-11 03:12

I wouldn't bet on anime being aired since the disaster special program is going to be aired for awhile.

One person had been reported have perished due to being swept away by a tsunami.
Aomori Hachinohe reports of a 2.7M tsunami.

Don't worry it won't last that long.
It would probably only effect the ones scheduled tonight.
Japan is Earthquake nation, beside the place that had been directly effected it will be back to normal within 24 hours.

pandabearnay 2011-03-11 03:22
