What a horrible way to start a thread.

Anyway i've just caught with up with the manga just a few minutes ago, so i'm looking very much forward to seeing this explosive arc animated.

Kinda glad things have settled before I entered this thread. Anyhoo, though I`ve been spoiled on a couple major things in this arc, I`m really looking forward to seeing the climactic end to the `first half` of the series.

Bring on the pirates and marines :D

Kurohitsugi 2010-07-08 22:16

Umm, as someone who just reads manga but doesn't catch up with the anime...
Wow, they already got to Marineford? In half a year or less the anime will have completely caught up with the manga... what then, 2 years of fillers?

morbosfist 2010-07-08 22:28

Don't worry about filler, at least for a while. The anime has taken up the practice of a one-to-one adaptation. As long as they keep it up, they'll never catch up to the manga.

The Marineford Arc arc is 32 chapters, and i can easily see the anime adding in additions here and there like it's known for, so there's no fear at all with it catching up to the manga.

Well, remember that the Marineford Arc was partially so long because there were a LOT of large two page panels filling the chapters. That kind of made things move slower, because there was less room for the story to move in 16-18 pages.

I would imagine they are going to stretch out the arc in places. Adding a lot of flash backs that weren't in the manga. Didn't they even add the Ivan and Magellan fight to Impel Down? I don't remember that fight actually being shown in the manga. Just the start and aftermath. I could be wrong.
With the whole Whitebeard War getting ready to start. I plan to blog about each episode on the site Anime Vice. I found the site last year. I like how you can post reviews right on episode's pages.
I'm going to start with the episode that airs this Saturday. I've never tried a project like this. It should be fun.

What I'm really curious about. When do you think we will get a new opening? It feels like we are about due. The past few openings have had some pretty big spoilers in them. That scene at the end of this current opening isn't too far off.
I hope we get a better song with the next opening. The current one feels a bit too childish for the mood of the story. The one before that sounded like something from a boy band.

I've noticed that since Sabaody Archipelago and Impel Down. For the most part they have stretched episodes out for one chapter is equal to one episode. Really, I think the longest run of fillers this series has ever had was probably between the Alabasta and Jaya Arcs. I believe that was 13 episodes.
Possible between Water 7 and Thriller Bark Arcs. That was around 11 episodes. Still, it's a lot better then that Naruto 2 straight years of filler.

Regarding the next OP, you can read up about it here.

i've come to see that as a negative really...
Sure we don't have to deal with filler, but that just means the canon episodes must be forced into a snail-like pace...
Frankly i'd rather deal with fillers and have quality canon episodes, than to have poorly done canon episodes with no filler

would be sweet if Akainu is voiced by the guy who voiced wrath in fma.

mageormike 2010-07-10 04:32

As someone who stopped reading the manga to enjoy the anime better, I'd have to say that I rarely notice or care about the slower pace these days. I've thoroughly enjoyed the the last two arcs personally.

Marineford battle is pretty long, but I expect some filler or specials after the arc is done.

Unlike Bleach or Naruto, One Piece fillers actually have good stories and are entertaining.

According to ANN the VA for Akainu is Michio Nakao, and it doesn't seem like he's that well known.

The biggest shame is the fact that they took a week off to do a soccer recap instead of showing this when it was supposed* to, and then we'd have this week for the new arc, opening, and all ^_^;;

However, again, it was a nice refresh and filled with flashbacks from awesome scenes that for the most part do not get referenced all too often.

Next week should be great, I've heard good things about this arc :D

For recap episode it wasn't that bad. But i really disliked art of this ep. I hardly loled after seeing luffy's strawhat :P

Has this Michio Nakao had other roles, or is this his first time in voice acting? At any rate Akainu is sure to sound tough and scary.
