I'm not aware of any series I'm watching that have been officially been put "on hold", but Daa! Daa! Daa! is sure going a slow pace ;) Actually, it may have been put on hold, because i believe AnimeOne finished the first season... so I'm wondering if that's all they were going to do, or don't have the second season. Besides that... I have nothing to say :P |

Turn-A Gundam. One group did it poorly up to episode 11, another is up to episode 7 but their release rate is positively glacial and they never widely release what they do anyway. |

Well, I'd like to see TnK completed, but considering the quality of the last load of episodes I watched (I'm around 31 or something - no rush), I really can't complain. Some great fansubbing of behalf of A-E, but I wouldn't say no to a speed up :P |
I'd like to see Ayatsuri Sakon finished. Seichi is so slow.
|
Seichi only needs more staff. Another editor/translator/typesetter would do wonders.
Anyway..... Ask Dr. Rin! (HnK and Live-eviL were doing this) Bakuretsu Tenshi (Lunar and a few others were on this one) I don't think there are any others..... |
I think Lunar is doing a great job with Bakuretsu Tenshi and they are releasing this series in a timely manner. Animeone and Onigiri, the one I'm following is a little behind, but they're only a few days behind. there are way slower titles out there. How can you be that impatient?

The correct answer is Sakkage Cromatie High.

Well we should distinguish between series that *are* being worked on but just at a slow pace and series that are utterly abandoned. If the group if just slow, I don't think its worth it for someone else to pick up. I want to see Hidamari no Ki and Dr. Slump. Overman King Gainer is going to be announced any day now. A US dubbing studio had claimed that OKG was one their projects, but no licenser confirmed it yet. |

I'd love to see more:
Ask dr. Rin Daa daa daa Mirumo de pon Yawara |
Twin Spica was stalled for a whiile, the fansub group can still use some addtional staff I think.

Of course if you're the only group bothering to sub it and you choose to do it every 3 months then no one is entitled to complain about speed. I just don't see why no group should pick up your pace just because you started subbing first. |
I always hate even thinking about responding to threads like these due to their "whiny" nature... but...
AM Driver and F-Zero (both were being done by Miyuki) would both be nice. Side note: anyone know if that F-Zero deal with 4Kids went through? I thought it was pretty much considered that 4Kids licensed F-Zero, but AnimeSuki still lists it... so... |

Advertise our need more? How? We've posted here at asuki, we've asked in public IRC channels, we've announced our need for TLers in our topic, and what has that gotten us? Not much, unfortunately. Why? Because people who have no problems with bitching about how long we're taking DO have problems with being of assistance. |
Okay, so suppose a group which was up to date on a series suddenly loses their translator--like, they're arrested for child porn distribution, or get killed in a car crash, or something. Point being, the group isn't behind on the show, but no new episodes will get done without a new translator. What is the incentive for a translator who finds this out and wants to sub the show to join that group instead of starting their own? It's not like they'd have trouble finding people to fill the non-translator slots--they could personally fill the shoes of timer, typesetter, encoder, etc. single handedly if need be. (It certainly saves the time it would take to move the raw around within the group.) Most groups have multiple teams, so releases of different series by the group wouldn't typically be of consistent style, and even if they were, releases of this single series by that group wouldn't be any more, since the team would be different at a critical spot. And it's not like reputation is an issue--if the new translator lives up to the group's reputation, he doesn't need that reputation--he'll have his own under his own group. Conversely, if the translator doesn't live up to the group's reputation, does the group even want them? The reputation wouldn't last long when the quality dropped. And if the group refused the translator because he didn't meet their standard, and the translator went off and started his own group to continue the show, how dare anyone call him a vulture?
(Of course, I would personally hope that this translator would start subbing the show from episode 1, so that they would have scripts to release in DVDSubber format when the R2 DVDs were released, but the argument still holds.) |
Easy answers to your questions, Torgen.
- To avoid oversubbing. Unfortunately, far too few people take this into consideration these days, and that's why we get crap groups popping up left and right to oversub SamuraiChrnoChobits. - Because the translator likes the work the group does, and thinks he/she can contribute to their releases. - Because he doesn't want to go through the trouble of founding/running a new group, or learning a variety of new techniques when he can come in to work with an experienced staff who has a 90% probability of being able to do a better job than that one person. There are more reasons, but these are three that jump to mind off the top of my head. And if the translator doesn't meet a group's requirements? Well, that's up to each individual group. Genbu's usually desperate enough to take them anyway, and ask an experienced translator to do TL-check, but obviously that will vary from group to group. |
