Smugglers and Wanted Criminals after all they a military force I can imagine the Privateers going after bounties and taking whatever they want after said bounty is captured.

Now where is Fanfic.net's Moretsu category... At the rate they are going, I'm going to have written a full My Babarossa Pirate Can't Be This Cute! spinoff by the time FF.net puts it up!!

You could just put it on Archive of Our Own and just tag it with the show on your own. Easier than waiting for the ff.net people.

That's like Eton having the Golden Hind as their Yacht Club's ship, or a posh New York school running with the USS Constitution.

And I would like to see both in swimsuits along with Marika and Lynn. And if they ever do a beach episode or a hot springs episode, there will be a DFC character in there somewhere, because as Konata once taught us, DFC characters have just as much fetish fuel as a well-endowed one.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing Jenny and Chiaki dressed up in Victorian garb, especially Chiaki since the whole Kuroneko IN SPACE meme would be complete. So hopefully we'll see fanart of Chiaki in long gothic dresses. :love: I don't know if I could handle the massive blood loss that would occur from seeing them though ;)

Published under Misc anime, tagged with Bodacious Space Pirates. I'll move it once the category comes up. Thanks guys!

I'm Meister Babylon, and this is my favorite idea in the entire thread.

It is my imagination or does it look like the three knife-like military warships can combine into a larger warship?

MeisterBabylon 2012-02-14 19:06

Audacious Space Traders is now active and ready for hyperspace! :D

Quantum Computing and odds and ends.

During Lynn's brief talk about Electronic Warfare in Episode 5(a sidenote: I still can't stop laughing at the "Erectonic Warfare" screen. Sounds like a bad porno), she had mentioned quantum codes. Now, I don't know if she meant cryptography based on quantum physics or if she meant something like "programming using the oddities of subatomic particles to transmit data".

Looking at wikipedia, Quantum Computer,has this defination:
Quote:

A quantum computer is a device for computation that makes direct use of quantum mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data. Quantum computers are different from digital computers based on transistors. Whereas digital computers require data to be encoded into binary digits (bits), quantum computation utilize quantum properties to represent data and perform operations on these data
A quantum computer could use the "up" or "down" positions of particles instead of bits(paraphrasing from wikipedia) and due to the nature of subatomic particles, it could use these particles being in both states simultaneously. From what else I can gather, very complex computations using a quantum computer could be done faster than a traditional computer could do them. Unfortunately, I don't have a background in physics so understanding some of the jargon of the wikipedia article would take me some time but I did want to put my observation out there for some of those who know physics more than I do to discuss the implications of quantum computers in the Mouretsuverse.

Like Getter Robo? I haven't seen that mecha series, but I have heard a lot about the Go Nagai shows of the 70s and 80s.

Well there is the large two "bladed" ship firing on I suppose Marika early in the preview, then you see the single "bladed" ships looking like they are manuvering for some reason. Logic suggests the three ships form one larger ship. (the third in pointing aft in the middle).

(Though Marika and Chiaki would be more interesting for "Symmetrical Docking".)

MeisterBabylon 2012-02-15 17:59

Here's a more recent example. :uhoh:

EDIT: Audacious Space Traders updated. :D… :heh:

I suppose that would be an interesting sight if the "bladed" ships did do that.

When I see "Symmetrical Docking", it makes me think of GaoGaiGar. Now that is a series where it takes a while for things to really get going although Episode 24 on are totally intense and awesome episodes. I suppose for Marika and Chiaki to truly do that kind of thing, they'd need some Large Ham hotblooded guy giving the approval for Final Fusion.

Haven't seen either Aquarion series. I ought to check out the original if only for the things that I have heard about it. Interesting how the sequel has a post count of about 1500 already(and its a 2 cour series).

Duly noted on the update to your fanfic :)

Is she referring to Quantum key distribution?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_key_distribution

Only parties equipped with the key are able to decrypt or decrypt messages, similar to a cipher, which contains an algorithm? I'm not an expert at physics either, but this interests me..heh. Well, i know that it's possible to transmit information using quantum teleportation by quantum entanglement; if two parties share an entangled qubit, the party who wishes to send information takes a measurement, and provides it to the other party, who can then obtain the information (correct me if i'm wrong). It's a more secure system, as any third party who wishes to obtain the information has to take a measurement of the system, resulting in detectable anomalies (from wiki).

She also mentions opening an FTL comms line, but i don't think that's possible at this point in time.

molitar 2012-02-17 11:46

Yeah Wikipedia really can confuse the basic principle of a quantum computer. The basic idea of a Quantum Computer vs Digital is a digital only has 2 states on or off for binary and takes time to switch. But a Quantum Computer the movement of the Quantum represents a state so while Digital can only have on/off states a Quantum Computer could have thousands of states represented by the location of the Quantum itself. Now this is where it's interesting because of this you in effect have a system that will be running calculations for code breaking or such simultaneously because each of these states in different locations are different binary values!

A good examine is for a computer to search for a proper phone number and name in a phone book of 10,000 names and numbers it will have to guess on an average of 5,000 names to get the correct number but a Quantum Computer will only have to make 100 attempts! 5,000 for 25 million names! Quantum Computers would put security at a whole new level because a Quantum Computer with enough power would be able to crack the best security very quickly.

Entanglement FTW! Looks like they really did their research there. Never played Eve Online though.

MeisterBabylon 2012-02-17 19:43

I guess for those lazy amongst us, using EVE for SCIENCE looks like a good idea.

Also, we really need to draw a distinction between Privateers and pirates. Privateers are legalised and somewhat regulated pirates who have a Letter of Marque, a symbol of official sanction.

Pirates just go and steal whatever they can and shoot the survivors.

Not to mention that privateers are sometimes honored with regular Naval ships and such named after them, like the Barbarossa who became Admiral for the Ottoman Empire, and I think Francis Drake(besides being a Rider in Fate/Extra) has things named after him too, and then there's the famous American naval captain John Paul Jones(not the Led Zeppelin guitarist).

Quantum entanglement itself is quite interesting too. It's also interesting to see that QKD is in use today(or so I gather from that Wikipedia article). It describing the potential vulnerables and countermeasures is interesting too.

I suppose if you can find particles(or processes) that allow for FTL travel, you can always find waves or energy that allow for FTL comms. And that isn't taking the possibility of creating artificial mini-wormholes into account either.

@MeisterBabylon- I read and I liked your fanfic so far.

"Mugen no Ai" music video will be streamed at Momoclo UStream site [link] in 10 minutes

Edit: No Friedman-san.
Those who missed the full version of the PV will probably be able to view it later at Nico2 and/or youtube

@opening paragraph:

Glad you liked it. Kaelis read one too many holo-novels as a boy, especially Space Westerns, and it has shaped his perspective of things by a large margin. The opening lines were a (lame) attempt by me to bring that across, along with his spoken lines so far and more to come.

@Hansolo-ism:

You called it. Binville was inspired by Firefly’s Mal, as I wanted to have a captain who’s too young, his cyborg sidekick, and his ship, versus the galaxy. I only later found out that the Serenity and Mal were inspired by the Millenium Falcon and Han himself. ^^;

Crest Eagle on the other hand was inspired by the Star Wars light freighters Ebon Hawk and Millenium Falcon. Like them, the Crest Eagle has a 2 part name inspired by a bird of prey and is a super-modified flying palace that is as fast as heck and flown by a crack flamboyant pilot. When asked about his ship, Kaelis replies, “She doesn’t look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.”

And so by extension, Kaelis… shot first. :p

Audacious Space Traders is a spinoff of Bodacious Space Pirates, told from the perspective of the other side of the fence. That is, a up-and-coming freighter captain who does lots of “errands”. Legal pirates are Kaelis’ anathema, and yet he’s inextricably enthralled by a future ‘glasses’ pirate captain (Megane Kaizoku-kanchou). :uhoh:

There will be jobs, SCIENCE, blasts, FAIL and flirts galore as this cantankerous romp rocks from one end of the Tau Ceti system to the other. So I hope you’ll stick around and enjoy the other chapters coming soon!

Heineko 2012-02-18 08:35

Ku-ku-ku. A very good fic for a mortal, I must say.

But it does not compare to the elegance of Kurihara-hime.
