Ratman

Hmm, search is not with me, either I got things wrong or there really isn't any thread about this manga, which I've recently gotten interested in these few days.

Me! Me! Pick me!

It's a really entertaining little manga. A fun superhero spoof with a lot of heart and a really cool "villain" costume. Plus, the Jackies. :heh:

Mizushima's kuudere is just strawberry on the cake, although Sentimental Twintail is also a sweetheart.

The problem is that I have as of yet to see any scanlations, and my local bookstore carried the first volume... and nothing after that; hell, the first volume even vanished/was bought or whatever, and never restocked. And no, one volume isn't enough to convince me to buy a series

Hopefully I'll come across a copy of volume two sooner or later... it's got a very interesting premise

Jackies... what do I say, they're pretty much golden. I like how their mere presence diffuses a tense, serious situation when you need them to.

As far as how many releases are out, sad to know that the Chinese scanlations have up to Volume 7... while the English scans have been lacking, of course.

And yes... Twintails-senpai. Can't mention them in the same sentence else it'll be bad for my heart :heh:

Spoiler for Oh noes:

This manga is funny, i read this.

And the story is a bit original.

The main mail character, that wants to be a hero, becomes a villain:heh:

Looking for the translation.

judasmartel 2011-11-18 04:57

A Kuudere as the main love interest, huh?

At least we can use a break from Tsundere and Yandere love interests for a while.

Tsunderes and Yanderes sure are good, but when they got Flanderized and all, too much of a good thing gets really boring after a while.

But Kuudere love interests are pretty much commonplace in TV shows in our country though. Lastikman (Elastic Man) for example, has a Defrosting Ice Queen Kuudere as the main love interest of the hero.

But I still love Zettai Ryouiki tho.

The official English version is being released by Tokyopop. They've been having all sorts of business problems so I suppose stocking the books in actual stores has been an issue, and there's always the risk of having the series dropped with them. It doesn't look like a popular sort of series that tends to get shelf space anyway.

You can always buy them online of course, though how convenient that is depends on where you live. Americans probably have it easiest -- for example, Rightstuf, American-based, has volumes 1, 2, and 4 in stock. I have no idea why 3 isn't listed somewhere.

That said, the scanlator -- the good one, Mixini -- has been making (rather uncharacteristic, lol) progress lately with it. Google will turn up his (?) site, though a certain scanlator-friendly reader site also has it up.

Edit: lol judasmartel, just caught up with the latest chapter I take it? XD

... Eh?

Well, let's start dreaming.

judasmartel 2011-11-18 08:35

Well, yeah, I'm dreaming. Pretty much the same thing I did with 7o3x.

Chapter 5 KITAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! :hyper-^v^:

Spoiler for chapter 5:

paladinenvec 2011-11-22 02:23

This manga is very good, funny and entertaining , i liked how the author made a very balanced "ball" between romance, jokes and action i think most of the time the Jackies are the ones that take that trophy giving a good laugh when romance get's too corny or a moment get's too serious and of course i love Mizushima <3 (imouto).

lightbringer 2011-11-22 02:38

A cute, light-hearted manga where the protagonist becomes a dark anti-hero and battles villainous heroes of justice (in this world, the concept of a hero is commercialised, similarly to Tiger & Bunny). You could do much worse with your time than spending an afternoon reading this, but do not expect deep engagement or a profound and compex plot.

judasmartel 2011-12-04 07:27

Chapter 7 is out!

Spoiler for Chapter 7:

Then again, a Kuudere main girl is a break from the usual Tsundere main girls we have around for a while.

KLGChaos 2011-12-04 08:47

Not fan of Kisaki. She's your typical overly violent, won't even stop to listen type of character who always believes she's right. I'm rooting for Jackall all the way. The heroes are just annoying.

Mentar 2011-12-04 09:21

Mizushima for me, even though I don't dislike Kisaki.

paladinenvec 2011-12-04 14:01

Kisaki is good and truly likeable character but i prefer Mizushima far more mainly cause i feel bored of the typical tsundereish main female character .

judasmartel 2011-12-04 14:43

Well, Tsunderes are all good, but too much of a good thing gets really boring after a while.

bakAnki 2011-12-13 21:59

Read 8 chapters and I love this series...
Commercialized superhero is kinda like Tiger & Bunny though on this one they make it on bad side, and our supposed-to-be-villain/anti-hero Ratman is the one trying to right the wrong, but thing always get complicated.... Usually thanks to the costume's open-mouth gimmick and those hilarious combatants XDD

Hope it will get anime (so the chance of Ratman and those combatants got Figma treatment is bigger :heh:) :3

Kleeyook 2011-12-14 02:16

Totally loving this series. I read it in Thai until vol. 6. Now Japanese has up to volume 8 tankobon but I can't find the raw for it (not that I can read Japanese anyway). :(
