It's really not too surprising they're releasing this again. Here are the DVD sales figures from the thread here:

Mononoke 12,879 (5, not including DVD-BOX) (Toei Animation)
2007/10/26 15,150 Vol. 1 "Zashiki Warashi" (Two episodes)
2007/11/22 11,419 Vol. 2 "Umibouzu" (Three episodes)
2007/12/21 12,740 Vol. 3 "Nopperabou" (Two episodes up to Vol. 4)
2008/01/25 12,811 Vol. 4 "Nue"
2008/02/22 12,274 Vol. 5 "Bakeneko" (Three episodes)
2009/04/08 *5,657 Mononoke & Ayakashi~Bakeneko DVD-BOX (Twelve Mononoke episodes and three Bakeneko episodes)

2009's DVD re-release wasn't much of a success by the show's previous high sales standards, but I bet a Blu-ray re-release might do better than that 5,657 units. It's too bad no one in the West seems to think this might sell. Of course, they don't think Dennou Coil will sell, either.

By now many of you have probably seen announcements of an R1 DVD release for Mononoke. I'm still unconvinced. Most online sellers are charging $15 for a two-disc preorder. That seems absurdly low for an item which will sell, at most, a few thousand copies in the US. The Siren release in Australia costs A$50.

Well, it is real, and it is available now on pre-order from RightStuf. Even with shipping the whole series cost just $20!

RS no longer has the "Bake Neko" DVD, but you can still order it from Amazon.

Fifteen of the finest anime episodes I've ever seen for about $30. How can you go wrong?!

I always figured this is an artsty kinda show, but nobody ever told me it's packed with emotion. Medicine Man just keeps things lively to ensure that even the empty moments of each vignette never get dull. Faceless Monster and Nue to a lesser extent didn't have the same catharsis as the other stories, but even still the show is disturbing in all the right ways.

Can't decide whether I like this or Ping Pong more though.

Bumping this thread from the deep depths of this forum to announce that this series is getting a film and stage play for the 15th anniversary. Link to the film thread.

Lord, I hate crowdsourcing for anime.
