Action & Old School Anime

Yo again,

Finished off the list I was given a few weeks ago pretty fast :D some were really good, some I couldn't stand.
Im looking for a anime which has a kind of old school feel or a hip hop feel. For example cowboy bebop or Samurai champloo.
Im watching this by myself this time(Fiance hates Action animes) so can be as gorey as hell.
Animes like these would be perfect:
Black lagoon
Tri-gun
gungrave
afro samurai
Hellsing
Samurai 7
NGE
Gantz
Tenjou tenjhe
FMA
Ninja scroll
Dragon ball Z
Thanks for your time

Every few months a thread like this pops up looking for good oldskool anime..Good thing I'm the master at late 90's shonen^^...No need to think about it, these shows fit in right with your list...

Flame of Recca (Yu Yu Hakusho Lite)
Airmaster (Think Olympic Gymnast turned hardcore underground street fighter )
Heatguy J (Main character is a poorman's Spike Speigal, and his android partner has Jet Black-ish qualities^^)
Hunter X Hunter (First 2 series are amazing and gritty as hell, 3rd series not as much)
Gokudo (Fun, funny with oldskool action--About a conman swordsman who travels the heavens looking for a$$ and ca$h)
Read or Die (Chicks kill you with paper)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (A very rare and crazy oldskool anime adventure thru time and dimensions)
Outlaw Star (I'm assuming you've seen this, if not I pray for you)

More recent but with that oldskool feel:

Mitchiko E Hatchin (Said it before, say it again, closest anime in existence to Cowboy Bebop discounting Champloo--just stars a chick instead)
Hajime No Ippo (Intricate Boxing anime that's hilarious at times and about real life)
Desert Punk (Outrageously funny, with outrageously fun action, and a sex-deprived hero of legend)
Sengoku Basara (Action action action)
Needless (See Sengoku Basara's parentheses)
Tokyo Tribe2 (This is you're 100% Hip Hop anime, the only one of it's kind that examines the gang lifestyle of the half-black//half-asian subculture in Japan...Superhardcore at times, with all the goodstuff, like murder, killing, sex, violence, the ganksta lifestyle and ofcourse Samurai Cyborgs^^)

Now gimme my rep^^...

Basilisk - although it lacks the full episode power ups of dragon ball z it has many aspects that you will like. For example if you like Ninjas it has a few of those......... If you like special powers it has that as well...........
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...me.php?id=4318

Berserk - If you liked samurai 7 and said to yourself man i wish that it had a little egg that makes people go crazy... Then Berserk is the show for you!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...ime.php?id=328

Peacemaker - Although it was made around 2003 and wouldnt really count as old school.. I think you might like it because of the list of shows that you have liked. I mean in Dragon Ball Z all the main people look like they are gay... So in peacemaker you have a real gay person!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...me.php?id=2763

Rurouni Kenshin - Well... this might be one of the greatest shows of all times... and maybe one of the hardest to get through as well.. But you know what they say "anything that's easy isn't worth doing.." So if you finish Rurouni Kenshin you can pat yourself on the back and say well done...

Samurai X Trust and Betrayal - This show has everything you are looking for it an OVA so its kind of short 4 or 5 episodes, LOTS OF BLOOD, a ton of action, a love story, and well its SUPER!!!!!!!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...ime.php?id=210

Inyuasha - Great show... it has random episodes like Dragon Ball Z that leave you asking yourself what did I just watch........ And was there a point to that episode....... But those are few and far between... Inyuasha as good action not a whole of blood but its still good!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...ime.php?id=159

Speed Grapher - again came out around 2005 so not really old school but its still good and you might like it... Action and BLOOD! O...

Ah, Speed Grapher is good and dark at the same time...The ability to use your eye as a snapshot of death is sublime...

Well I guess I'll throw Gun X Sword into the mix...While I didn't love it's second half it is one of those rare futuristic western genres in the vain of a Trigun...Plus it's really pretty to look at with loads of action...

Gunsmith Cats- 90s action OVA with a female protagonist skilled with guns and a partner skilled with bombs. If you liked Black Lagoon or girls wielding guns in general, you'll probably enjoy this. Action scenes are quite enjoyable too and from what I've heard, its depiction of Chicago circa 1990s is quite accurate.

Grenadier- gunplay oriented action series. The heroine Tendo Rushuna is sort of a female Vash. It's not quite as good as Trigun, but it's an enjoyable series with some entertaining fights (especially the final one) and some funny moments. Our heroine also has an 'unique' way of reloading. :naughty:

You might like the 3x3 EYES OVAs. They're old and bloody as hell. I think everyone in that show has at least 100 gallons of blood in their bodies. You might also like Blade of the Immortal.

Obelisk ze Tormentor 2011-08-05 09:49

Lets see... old school action that hasn't been mentioned above....

How about Bubblegum Crisis? It's all about women in action.

bhl88 2011-08-05 11:48

Does cardfighting count as action? .... oh wait... I don't want to recommend card games...
