Best Moe Tournament 2011 (Korea)

Best Moe Tournament ENGLISH webpage is up!!!

http://moet.anizone.net/?Phase=CombatList&lang=eng

First the Skinny

Absolutely no campaign posts allowed.

This includes posts containing ANY campaign verbiage whether in whole or in part. Contributing to the debate is encouraged, provided you do NOT add "VOTE ABCD!!!" (or similar to the post itself). Simply rebutting another's post or opinion with "XYZ sucks" is totally unacceptable.

To be clear:

* Please do not create a post with the sole purpose to campaign for a character!
* Do not add “VOTE FOR XYZ CHARACTER!!” anywhere in your post even if the intent isn't to purely campaign.

We want intelligent, decent and fun discussions about the weekly Rounds and the subsequent winners & losers.

* No Image campaigning.
Do not create a post with an image or collage representation of a campaign poster. In other words: a PhotoShopped image of the character you want people to vote for with “vote for” text added to it.

Posting Etiquette:

* Please do not cross post information about this tournament in other AnimeSuki threads except those which are related to moe tournaments.
Keep all Anime Best moe Tournament posts, campaigns, character information, voting links, etc., within this thread only or in your signature (signature size limits still apply).

* No "meta-posting".
Meaning: posting about another poster, the thread or about another post itself, is forbidden and will be deleted on-the-spot, regardless of intention. If you want to comment about another poster that’s off-topic and/or personal, send them a PM.

* Any flame-baiting will be deleted and those people banned.
Please keep the thread positive, fun and clean. If your choice doesn’t win the Round and you can’t discuss the fact without complaining, swearing and baiting people into arguments, then don’t post.

* Do not create image only posts.
You can, however, include an image with your discussion. If you want to visually support the character you’re voting for then please do so in the context of your original discussion and use only one or two images. We would encourage the use of “thumbnails” if possible (and please, no large images).
Please use Spoiler tags if you wish to post a non-thumbnailed image
--PM the mods if you need help with posting thumbnail images or using any of the tags.

Thanks for the heads up! :D

Do you think that you ask them to update this page: http://moet.anizone.net/index.php?lang=eng

(and rename the page title to include "2011")

Err, is the nomination for male/female characters supposed to be together? Because I saw a decidedly male character (Motoki Kaizu) in the ranks, although I really can't tell otherwise because I recognize less than a tenth of all the characters there.

Due to repeated negative reaction towards Best Moe voters being 60% female until the Quarterfinal stage, the staff decided to change the eligibility criterion from being gender based to Series Orientation based. In return, the controversial 3 year limit has been removed. The Tournament has been named Otaku's division to highlight the fact that series that caters more towards male viewers will be the primary focus of the tournament. The former Male's division has been renamed to Otome's division in return.

The combined Eligibility rule.

1. Series that Staff has evidence of attracting mostly male voters while not attracting much female voters will have ALL, both male AND female characters appearing in the Otaku's division tournament.

2. Series that staff has seen evidence of attracting large number of male voters as well as large number of female voters will have its male characters participate in Otome's division and the female characters participate in Otaku's division.

3. Series that staff don't see large support from neither male voters nor female voters will have its male characters participate in Otome's division and the female characters participate in Otaku's division.

4. Series that Staff believes to likely attract much more female voters compared to male voters will have both its male and female characters participate in the Otome's division tournament.

5. There will be Super Moe Tournament where all series, both male and female characters are eligible. The discussion for the rules of 2011 Super Moe Tournament is scheduled to be held in September and October.

If you have suggestions or opinions towards 2011 Super Moe Tournament rules, please post them here and I will translate and post them in the Anizone's Korean Moe Tournament board for Korean people and staff to see and discuss.

:thinker:

So then trap characters are allowed if they're from a male aimed series? :heh:

hinakatbklyn 2011-07-27 16:52

I'm not sure of all the trap characters, but after skimming through the groups, I do know Hideyoshi (BakaTest) is in one of the later groups.

Yes. Trap was discussed explicitly because some of the running joke in some series is ambiguity of the gender, with Hideyoshi being the prime example. Watarase Jun in the Happiness! is another complicated reason. Since Both series can be said to be more geared towards male viewer and won't likely attract much female voters to the contest, thus these two characters retain eligibility since they are either male or female in anatomical sense.

The reason this matters is because non-human characters who can't be said to be male-like or female-like are not eligible. The prime example of this case is that Kyuubey is not eligible, since he isn't human, and we don't have any clue whether he has a gender in traditional sense. Raising Heart and Bardiche are also not eligible as they aren't human, and other than the voice, their physical feature doesn't conform to normal human gender. Traps are human, and while we may not exactly know their gender in some cases, we do know that in end, they are either male or female.

If we had someone with ambiguity about the gender in a series that is popular with both male and female, best guess about their gender is used, because they have to be at least one of the two genders. In rare case of being mixture of both, international convention says they will be treated as male in most cases.

Pretty sure they're only allowed in Super Moe still, since Best Moe requires Anime series/movies :).

Touhou has not been made into anime by widely recognized commercial entity. Its 'OVA' was not marketed and sold in manner similar to traditional anime works by studios. So these fail Maker Qualification test

Vocaloids also lack certifiable anime presence. What little seen they had were inconsequential to overall plot, and screen time was too short. Therefore they fail significance test.

Kyonko was never an official character in an anime. What little scene a character that resembles her had wasn't significant, nor long enough. So he/she fails official status test and/or significance test.

If these characters appear in an anime series you can order its DVD from Amazon.jp and have significant screen time on it with their names clearly identified, then they can become eligible.

Super Moe Tournament is deliberately more relaxed in eligibility rules. Consider it an escape venue for many who were denied.

Because not many female voters expressed interest in the series, during a month long debate about the rules and eligibility.
