I know it's been a while and I see some else asked as well but I have yet to find an answer to this question.

I just finished this series.
So... basically everybody failed at their goals? |
More or less. It is a shoot the shaggy dog story.

I really liked how the show made failure out to be something that can indeed be celebrated despite the negative connotations typically associated with it. Pretty much every major and sub-major character in this show fails in one way or another as mentioned, but it's precisely because of those failures that allows their personalities and characters to flourish. I wouldn't have had it any other way tbh and I attribute that factor as one of the reasons behind the show's lasting impact.

It was certainly a... unique experience. I can't think of any other series that was so positive about this level of failure on the characters' part. At least not without a greater emphasis on what can be done to "make up" for it.

Katanagatari is a wonderful failure but it is implied that Kiki Shikazaki(?) gave up on the plan centuries ago.. |
