VLC Subtitles Problem

I remember I had this problem a while ago when I was using VLC on Windows but now I'm using Ubuntu (Linux) the only choice I really have is VLC so I kinda want to figure this one out now. Basically, 1. The font is massive and 2. It has the notes... Like this:

Any help would be wonderful. Alternatively if there are any other light weight video players for Linux anyone could recommend, where this wouldn't be a problem, please do so :D

mplayer

VLC for softsubs = bad...

MPlayer is a far better choice for softsubs under Linux. Especially now with SMPlayer available in Ubuntu 7.10, as it is really a great GUI for MPLayer.

I tried MPlayer and it came up with an error to do with "alsa-control" but after getting SMPlayer it works perfectly. Thanks a lot

I have the same problem and the only thing you can do if using VLC is remember where you were, close and open it back up and it should go back to normal unless it does it from the moment the video starts :/
