Yumeji Hujuwara-kun is your ordinary adolescent boy , but 10 years ago he noticed he had a power to see multicolored auras surrounding the persons body which he looks upon through his fingers. Every so often Yumeji has dreams about a war with cats , but one day a girl fell on top of him .... what will happen now with his incoming feline enemies ?

Can I just say that I absolutely adore Chaser? More then the main characters or any other characters? Chaser is the best of them all.

Still wondering why John Doe is voiced by Jouji Nakata and not Jun Fukuyama :D

Yumeji x Chaser all day please.

Hello fellow fan ;)

While I have to admit that the official pairing is most definitely Yumeji/Merry (since between the anime and the manga I really don't think Yumeji is human) Yumeji/Chaser is awesome.

Chapter 25: Chaser revealed as a tsundere for Yumeji

I like where the plot is going!

Plus Yumeji is getting more awesome by the second.

What what what? Wagahai and Dreamer Boy? Looks like I really need to catch up on the manga: the reason I liked in the first place is all because of the Cool Cats!

Not that I usually peruse such stuff [obligatory disclaimer], but I bet Rule 34 totally applies regarding Yumeji x Chaser. Err, Chaser x Yumeji. Whatever.

Is wondering if anyone else gets the cat & wagahai pronoun reference.

Acutally, I've been looking around- it's mostly boys that like this series so far, so most of the drawings have been yuri, not yaoi. So, I haven't see any Chaser/Yumeji. Because Chaser is top.

Didn't get the reference at all.

Irenicus 2011-03-01 07:12

Finished catching up! Holy shit it got epic.

Random impressions:

- For some reason I really like Ken-chan. Making a carefree but nice guy the primary victim of this arc is an excellent move by the author. It kept me wishing that he'll be saved in the end and everything will turn out alright.

- The last few chapters saw Yumeji leveled up repeatedly. Fortunately he's always had the personality so it doesn't feel like an arbitrary boost at all. Combined that with the cats' glorious entrance (you can't do better than that!) and you've got yourself something good.

- Less Isana is not good though. :( It's something of a lost bet because Merry is the eponymous heroine, but I'd much prefer Yumeji x Isana. Appreciate her better dangit, lover boy. =_=

- The anime actually adapted the first chapters better than the manga itself handles them in many parts. This is a pleasant surprise.

After reading...this definitely has to be Chaser x Yumeji, yes. Tsundere on top, no question. :heh:

Well...there's a really, really famous book in Japanese literature written around the turn of the 20th century called wagahai wa neko de aru, in English I am a Cat. It's a funny social commentary on Meiji Japan from the point of view of a lazy cat. The pronoun "wagahai" is a satire on the part of the author as it is a lordly, prideful "I" pronoun used by nobles of antiquity...not usually what a cat would call himself with.

I didn't know Chaser John Doe used this term [and thereby referencing Japan's most famous cat] until I saw the anime. I totally did a double take when I heard it the first time. Just goes to show you really can't capture everything in translation (there's no way the manga's translators could possibly work that in -- even professional translators who worked on the classic novel couldn't carry through the nuance).

Shadow5YA 2011-03-01 13:43

Yeah, the anime has more Isana, though I personally don't care for the extra filler Nightmares. More Isana works out well, since apparently she learns the truth about dreams later.

What volume does Pharos Elcres get defeated in the novels? I wonder whether the anime will get to that point or just go for a filler ending.

Manic 2011-03-01 16:55

there's only 6 vols out, and from the sounds of it they havent fought him yet. Seems like its dealing more on yumeji's humanity and starting on a love triangle.

Wait, that was from the novels? I thought that was from the manga.

Manic 2011-03-01 17:44

uh... someone can correct me if i am wrong, but i dont believe there is a light novel. Pretty sure this is adapted from a manga only.

Shadow5YA 2011-03-01 17:57

Oh, my mistake. I thought the cover art was for a light novel for some reason.

Either way, though, I don't think we'll be seeing much of Elcres in the anime this season, if at all, considering we only have a few more episodes to go and I'm sure most of that will be anime-original content. I don't think we'll even touch volume 4.

I believe so as well. I haven't seen anything to persuade me otherwise either. :D

OOOHHHH Now that makes sense. Thanks for the reference!

And while Chaser is a Tsundere (and is slightly regulated to the bottom because of that) He's also taller, more mysterious, and all around cooler person the Yumeji is. Thus he tops. Or tops from the bottom.

Shadow5YA 2011-03-05 20:51

ch26 is out.

Is it ever revealed later who John Doe's vessel is?

Manic 2011-03-05 20:53

yeah.

Spoiler for His vessel:

i loved the cat girls expression in the backround, when merry said u want yumeji dont you! They were like ready to raype him haha. Its more of a wet dream than a nightmare

Wha... animals other can humans can be used as vessels?

Johnny 2011-03-07 14:35

Spoiler for ch 27:

Asuras 2011-03-08 00:30

Man. I'd so feed that cat. :heh:

It's surprising to see John Doe so quickly turn to the side of the protagonists, but meh. He's still cool.

outerelf 2011-03-08 01:11

John... you...I...I can't stop laughing at you. I'm sorry, but I really can't. Really? A cat body, on its hind legs, and with a cape?!

and 'Nyaa'? I have to wonder at you...

though I will agree that he turned over to the protagonists side too quickly, he is their important information well, so they can't let him wander off too far.

At the same time, Yumeji and Merry are unique beings that pique his curiosity and are interested in finding the truth about Merry and her involvement with dreams.

Should John Doe take the lighthouse guy's side again, he would be nothing more than a random grunt nightmare taking over a body to help others take over bodies.

Yumeji's side just overlaps with John's interests more.

Saturn Beaver 2011-03-08 08:30

The latest chapter was hilarious, so many hilarious moment from Yui's 'Magical, chemical, cooking!" to John going Nya and played with fiddlestick by Merry. Unfortunately, with the way things are going in the anime we may not be able to see John Doe's 'Nyaa'...if it's not going on an anime original ending anyway. Well, this is mostly a fun relaxing chapter after the huge battle last time, although the question at the end is a pretty good cliffhanger. It is a bit suspicious, and there's a lot of hints to that direction...can't wait for the next chapter.

Huh? How do you know he can use his power in the real world? (Unless you're talking about his seeing nightmares based on colors with his hand ability)

blade82 2011-03-10 15:54

yeah thats it

Excorsism 2011-03-10 17:07

Chapter 28....

Oh JESUS Isana is .

Shadow5YA 2011-03-10 17:50

I swear Merry gets a kick out of trolling John.

outerelf 2011-03-10 20:28

Who wouldn't get a kick out of trolling John? Or course, I'm much more likely to cuddle John then anything else so...

Manic 2011-03-10 20:51

maybe if it was one of his catgirls i'd cuddle haha

Johnny 2011-03-10 21:49

I'd much rather be in the middle of this...:heh:

theflyingturkey 2011-03-11 10:54

John Doe... You have the most badass nyaa I have ever seen.

Aside from that, has anyone every thought that Isana may be more involved in the whole dream world thing?
If I recalled correctly, Isana mentioned that Merry looked familiar in the earlier chapters.
