The end of a journey is upon us. I've been rewatching the second season on Crunchyroll in preparation for the finale (on episode 3 as of now), and walking into this episode I have some thoughts of this season when compared to the past one:

-The comedy has been better. Sure, the sound track still lacks proper comedic toned music, but the actual jokes has far better timing in general. I'm sure by the time I reach the mid way, things will look even better than I first saw it.

-The music is still great. Yes, this is clearly a score that doesn't fully cover the needs of the series, but it does fulfill the romantic side of things. The track that played during episode 2 with Kusunoki's feminine side materializing is among the best things I've heard not only in this show, but in this season. I'm getting the second OST for sure. *that and they use Lum's track for Elise lol)

-The voice acting is excellent. Ito Kana as usual is Elise, now and forever, but Hiro Shimono had really grown in to the role and impressed me this season. Other roles that stand out is Kana Asumi as Chihiro, but I think I'll expand on that once I get to rewatching that string of episodes again.

-The direction has more impact. Chihiro's arc along with Shiori's had been the best of the both seasons, with Shiori's looking visually superior and Chihiro's having the stronger dialogue. But both show a general level of caring placed into them that carried across and made for some fantastic viewing.

-And finally, it looks nice. While not exactly the best looking show, it does have a consistent look about it, and has no major failings in that regard. That and the retro feel the show appears to be going for is working in it's favor.

So, as I rewatch, I pray that this finale episode doesn't fall to the mistake the finale from the past season fell to. And that is not having enough comedy to counter Keima's obsession with galge, which lead to a very disturbing episode. Don't hold back and let loose, is what I hope will happen here.

Kaminomi II-XII - The All in One and the One in All

You can please everyone some of the time. And you can please some people all of the time. Keima can't even please himself some of the time. This was probably the most in depth look at his thought process we've ever been given, and it is fascinating (frankly, I'm on the side of Multi-Heroine myself, but that's for another day). I also liked the cameos of every past girl Keima's met, and the speech at the end was touching. Looks like Jun's arc had a bit of an impact on him. Yokkyun was kind of weird looking, but I learned long ago not to base all my opinions on art styles. For a closure to this season (and perhaps all seasons? We know there's an OVA on the way.), it was very well done.

May peace prevai- wait, wrong VN show.

This episode get's a full on 10/10 from me. Yokkyun's introduction and screentime with Keima delivered, and we also had the epic confrontation between Keima and himself. Oh my, that Gundam 0079 reference, so good. It was awesome in the manga, though so much better here.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time reference was easily my favourite part of the episode. :heh:

& then we get that ED, which totally hints at another season. Let's aim for a third season!

I just love this show, its totally a 10/10.
With the ending obviously hinting a next season, i can't wait to see it!

konart 2011-06-27 14:04

Loved all those Gundam references

EroKing 2011-06-27 14:04

Season 3 IS ON BABY!

Keima has found what he considers the closest thing to the ideal game in this episode, and I have found the closest thing to a perfect Kaminomi episode here!

This was ... everything was right here. The music placement and usage was correct, never out of place, always managing to complement each scene. The usage of silence never stood in the way of the comedy, Hiro Shimono ... he became Keima in this episode, without a doubt! The vocal changes he underwent, I was impressed! The man earns my respect as being the most fitting for the role.

The references were excellent. Ranging from simply parodying Gundam, galges and VN's, to straightly calling out Sound Novels and the different fandoms of VN's, but always affectionately. The staff had a clear amount of love for every thing they had made fun of in this episode, going as far as including a typical Tomino-service (bath scene anyone :p) to the typical arguments you see between each faction.

Every cameo was great. Seeing all the girls showing up, continuing their lives, for one last time was a great send off for this series. Also, that small tester was simply cruel! Third Season where!?

This was without a doubt, the best episode of both seasons. All my wishes were fulfilled (they learned from the mistakes of the past season's finale) and more (every cameo, every thing simply went right here). The music was great, even moreso than what it usually is. The animation looked above the shows average. It was simply a pleasure to watch.

This is what I wanted from this show, episodes of this quality, of this care placed into them. I have no regrets now that the show ends on this note, though I would love to see them make another season. But as far as I see, this was the perfect way to end this show.

10/10

I simply loved how tongue in cheek every thing was :p going from the look of Yokkyun, to the arguments. It was simply very good.

I do wonder if the way they attempted to show that both sides are equal had to do with being ''politically correct'' (in his mind? :heh:), since ultimately Keima's closest thing to his ideal, is after all a game with a single Heroine? :p

Oh yes, this season just showed me that they could make the anime much better than the manga, Shame that it had to end at this point!

It will be glorious! Aim for the Third Season!

SidVicious 2011-06-27 14:06

She's voiced by Sakura Tange?

EroKing 2011-06-27 14:19

Highlight of the episode for me was once again Elsie, she is the best Kaminomi girl!

What seriously? I was totally soaked into this episode to notice, though Sakura Tange is one of my all time favourites!

My god...this finale was just fantastic!!! So much Yokkyun screentime with Keima, and delicious cameos + references.

That ending though it's quite teasing...Mmm Season 3 is a huge want!

mtarzaim 2011-06-27 14:51

Torture I claim!
Why giving us a glimpse of the next targets (especially one with a passion for bubble warpers), when there is nothing to confirm their animated arc? :frustrated:

The ending was great, with a good reflexion about reality and ideals, the original OP and nice animation.

The love story between Keima and Yokkyun felt a little too standard for me.
They should have let it in the dark, so each watcher could think about how they really resonnate. There, I think we've lost the magic of "What could be the ideal Galge for the Galge God?".
Sometimes, it's better not to tell.

And they should have really boost the Gundamesque war. They've been relatively shy compared to the final episode of the first season, screenplay speaking. A gorgeous spacewar fight with all the suited technobabble wouldn't have hurt the show finale...

Anyway, once again, Kami has left us.
Let us pray for his return. :)

gin-jishi 2011-06-27 14:55

great episode to end this season!!! It had me laughing from the beginning till the end, and i learnt a very valuable lesson to! :P
Loved the 'fighting' part... altogether, i think that this episode reflects this anime as a whole

also, showing the future girls and the reflection of tenri.... man, at first, i thought there wasn't gonna be a second season, but now i have hope!!! xD

Sheep_ 2011-06-27 15:03

Great ep, I love how the added on to the whole Yokkyun bit. Seeing as the manga really never went in to him playing the game it self.

Also dat ending, it was a great way to connect season 1+2. Using the same animation style from the season 1 opening along with hinting at a season 3. Biggest tease ever I have to say.

blitz1/2 2011-06-27 15:07

Sieg keima!!!! We await his return!

Kopi 2011-06-27 15:31

Gundam parodies and Keima the God who leapt through time ? Win!

And yesss season 3!

RegalStar 2011-06-27 15:37

I wonder how many people out there gets what that "B's ware" is a reference to...

Tager 2011-06-27 15:47

The only thing i didnt like was when he took a shot at To Heart :( otherwise i want season 3 now!!!

SilverSyko 2011-06-27 16:06

With the ending of this episode the possibility of a 3rd season is definitely there, especially since they showed most of the upcoming capture targets in the story. Perhaps season 3 should run for 24 episodes instead of 12?

I wouldn't say this was my favorite episode to watch though. It's canon material and all, but for the most part it just felt superfluous despite that. Probably just me who feels that way though.

Anywho, I guess it's back to the manga for a while now.~
