General Gun Thread

Because we need one, and the Apocalypse thread is being overrun by em'.

Also supports any other military, self-defence, deadly, and non-fatal weaponry out there. Discuss anything and everything related to em'.

I have fired several guns so far. (If you're a boy in my country, it is rather difficult NOT to fire any firearms.)

Probably my favourites are the rifles. Now, if my commanders didn't insist on them being clean after every firing exercise...

Asuras 2010-12-11 22:41

What are you? American? Of course you need to clean those damned M16A2/M4A1/M6A2/M249/ etc's

They jam!
---
We really (in a war perspective) need a new standard rifle for our infantry. The M4 series is just becoming to outdated compared to the world. Isreal with their Tar-21's. Russian AN-94's. It goes on.

yezhanquan 2010-12-11 22:45

Now, I would really want to have a go with the AK series, to see if their "lack of jam" is true.

A reasonable rifle needs regular cleaning. A bad ass rifle only needs cleaning when you do (i.e. once in a long while).

SilverSyko 2010-12-11 22:49

Mosin Nagant and SVD sniper rifles FTW! The weapons I use the most often in the MGS series based on whether I care about killing enemies or not.

If it's too close a distance I usally rely on my Mk-22 Hush Puppy or a silenced Operator, again depending on whether I want to kill or not.

yezhanquan 2010-12-11 22:50

Just like how the crossbows managed to pwn the knights back in the old days. Balance is the key, between cost, reliability, ease of use and others.

My husband is an active duty Marine with two combat tours in Iraq under his belt, and wholeheartedly agrees with your take on the M-4! He has mentioned that the military is looking hard at the FN SCAR series (especially the "H" version) and the HK 416,417.
He said anything would be an improvement, especially something in 7.62 NATO!

Asuras 2010-12-11 22:50

Now, is it me, or are silenced weapon not actually to silent in real life? I've seen quite a few snipers on Future Weapons with a silencer, and the shot sound was still quite loud. Was that just the silencer, or are they just overexaggerated in movies and such?

The FN Scar series did manage to make it as SOCOM's main weapon, but...

H-Scar, 416, and the 417 all went head-to-head with the XM8, which proved to be a beauty, but the US canclled it's implimenation. Such a shame.

Same with dragonskin; it provides exponentially higher defence to its wearers, but our damned US gov't bannored it!!! :frustrated:
Likely because of $.

Is the PP-19 good? I usually use it in games such as Combat of Arms, but I don't know if it is any good or not?

Asuras 2010-12-11 23:00

Well, games aren't all conformist.
In BFBC:2, the M95 (M82A1 equivalent) is usually a OHKO, but in MW2 it takes about 2 shots.

So I wouldn't know.

ZeKeR 2010-12-11 23:02

well since uncle's trips around the world, got to shoot shitloads of guns...

oh btw AUG HBAR was heavy....

and guys... what are your reviews about the F2000? grip's a bit rough on texture in my opinion

Master_Yoma 2010-12-11 23:04

I like to fire guns there nothing like a gun in you hand that makes you fill big:heh:

But its all and good fun tell you get shot or a gun or it blows up in your face

Asuras 2010-12-11 23:04

It looks comfy to me! :p

I might as well repost this: I've only held two weapons, and fired one; a broken revolver (don't know the model), and an M95.

Thus, I don't know much about the "feel" of certain guns and such, but can give researched or prior-knowledge info regardless.

Lost Cause 2010-12-11 23:06

Why did the XM8 get the ax? I saw something about it on an episode of 'Mail Call' and that was it!

Asuras 2010-12-11 23:08

I'm guessing that the army didn't feel it was "important enough."

Also, the reports on the gun testing also surveyed the soldiers, in which most said they were "satisfied" with the M4 anyways.

I think that was before we got into Iraq or Afganistan right? In which case they (the Army) had figured we'd never get into a war where long range fire might be needed from other than snipers! Witness if you will to reissue of old M-14s to engage targets beyond 500 yards.
Secondly let's go back 40 years and remember how the Army screamed bloody murder about dumping the M-14 for the M-16! The 'History Channel' had a great show about this!

Asuras 2010-12-11 23:31

I suppose that soldiers get attached to their babies.

as far as i know, there were contenders....

M4A1 - yeah, pretty much our standards
XM8 - lighter than most, but parts quickly melt... and also damn expensive....
HK 416 - accuracy of an M4, reliability of an AK, and hardy parts from H&K
FN SCAR (L) - gentlemen.... meet FN's response to 416

also... lets have the vets do some melancholy...

M1 garand - 8 rounds of 30-06 firing VERY accurately at you.
M1903 springfield - you hear it, you're already dead
Lee Enfield SMLE - reliable, and deadly accurate too
M14 - its a bitch in full auto (yeah, my experience is that my shoulder was hurting much after 2 MAGAZINES of pure 20 rounds were unloaded) but accurate in semi
M16 (not the latest A4, the vietnam war era) - light, accurate, but WTF it jams?!
AK47 (the original version) - gentlemen, go into unknown areas, carry THIS

also, i can now rage at the FAMAS...
WTHISTHATRIDICULOUSLYHUGECARRYINGHANDLEFORANYWAY is all....

Asuras 2010-12-11 23:38

The xm8 also showed a much lower fail and jam rate too. It is also one of the (if not the) most customizable gun out there.

Either that or the bureaucrats figure it's "good enough" or "hey it's worked for this long why change it" atitude! They'll spend billions on carriers or new fighters but not one red cent on a new rifle, the very basic weapon used in a fight! Plus new tech manuals, training, and equipment.
Here's a new one. Which do you prefer; Semi automatic pistol or Revolver for general use and self defence?
