I don't think he knew what to do with the college side and frankly, having another generation of music club is kind of a rehash that just emphasizes "personalities by Lego parts" swapping.

College *could* have been something really interesting (as well as going professional at some point) but it just seemed either something that didn't interest him or it was a bit beyond him to come up with stories for that setting. At some point, he wouldn't be able to avoid including guys in the picture without it starting to look really fishy perhaps (omg! Mio dates!!! A hundred fans go berserk and kill themselves! ... errrr)

Some days I think the fandom over there is just stuck in high school nostalgia and don't even want to think there might be a path outside of salaryman/officelady or NEET. Perhaps he feared backlash of that sort.

Well, it drove me to write my own light novel series about a rock band (all original) so I guess I have to give Kakifly a few points for pissing me off enough to start the project. ;)

Looks like the ending really disappointed many. I'm a bit relieved that I'm not alone. :heh:

It would be nice if someone composes some music to Wakaba Girls' "Answer".

I think it was obvious that Kakifly ran into some issues while planning this sequel and that he had too little time to properly flesh out the story. It's as if this was merely an experiment to see how well a college-oriented K-ON! manga would do and he only got a very limited amount of chapters to do it in. Now that it bombed, it's possible that Kakifly lost interest in making more, unless demand suddenly skyrocketed again (which is where a third anime season highlighting both sides would come in handy).

What I would like to see is him trying something completely new, something totally unrelated to K-ON!. But, it might take years before he considers doing something else.

I honestly loved the fresh university aspect! If he would have focused more on the original fab four; I think it would been more enjoyable/successful.

The hard part might have been writing about an all girls university setting. I would think most people in Japan would at least have a background knowledge for high school be it general or even all girls school. But university is a different thing.

And to think that he had only 10 chapters for each side. That's a really tight squeeze.

I feel sad without Yui, I give it a chance.

grecefar 2018-07-07 10:50

there's always a chance for cameos.

I never cared much for Yui, but I do miss Mio and Ritsu.
