hp pavilion g6 2151 sp Recovery
 

My sister bought this laptop today. It comes with a Win7 home premium. I saw that there is a recovery partition.
What I don't understand is in case of the OS going unbootable... is there anyway to recover the OS? Doesn't matter if every data is lost. I suppose that recovery partition is the factory OS install right? I don't feel like burning 5 DVD to make recovery disks.

I believe when you hit some Fkey (I think its F11 for HP's, I could be wrong) before Windows comes up when booting, you should be taken to their recovery utility for the option restore to factory image.

I would burn your own recovery disks anyways, because chances are the factory install was loaded with crapware that would come back if you used HP utility. Also, in the event of hard drive failure, you would be able to use your disks, but the recovery partition obviously won't work.

OK... I see that it's the F11. But I also saw that when it was loading the recovery program it appeared that white bar we usually see in windows. Can I safely assume that it actually not using windows files at all?

The Recovery Utility is based on Windows PE I believe. So it is using Windows, just not the Windows that you normally boot up to.
