Pokemon Black and White

http://kotaku.com/5513079/new-pokemo...-pokemon-white

I mean... if it's not a tactics game or some significant change in gameplay, I'm just not going to care. However, they *are* going back to colors, if we don't count all the remakes.

Preliminary information points to the Nintendo DS. Again. So I'm not too hopeful on the "anything new" part. But I do a good job at predicting the exact opposite of what happens, so we'll see.

They decided to go back to metals for the 3rd game in the 4th gen, now they're going back to colors. Surely this means they're returing the series to it's simple days of glory?! Pfft, doubt it.

Still as always I'll be getting at least one of these versions. Can't say which one yet as we know absolutely nothing about them except 2 new Pokemon and the titles.

What really gets me though is the fact that it's for DS. With the new 3DS console right around the corner, why not make us wait an extra year and give us something "new" in the interactivity department?

Ah well whatever. I'll just sit back and see how many new legendaries they'll spit out at us in the meantime.

I've tossed around the thought that Pokemon is around to generate cash for Nintendo's more expensive and adventurous experiments like Wii Fit and the 3DS, because little children are stupid as hell and will just pour cash at Pokemon.

I'm just wondering why they can't experiment on Pokemon itself. The Japanese game industry is too damn conservative. They cherish the child-only image of the Pokemon brand too much.

Soooo... how much you wanna bet that they're gonna tweak the titles when it reaches stateside?

LOL Racial censoring during localization jokes.

Everything aside from the main games I'd have to agree with you on. The main series is still a very innovative concept and probably no game company could make a similar idea whithout it being claimed of ripping-off Pokemon.

The spin-offs and other multimedia like the anime adaptation are all just some money-generating shitstorm though. Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Pokemon Ranger? Good god. x_x

That is what I'm struggling with. The amount of features that rolled out one after another up to about Ruby and Sapphire are imaginative enough that you can't call its creator Satoshi Tajiri a one-hit wonder, although he has Asperger's syndrome, which does restrict his creative interest somewhat.

I feel that his team probably has thought of all the ideas that people want already, but internal politics with Nintendo higher-ups and Tajiri himself (who supervises development from start to finish) stopped a lot of them. It's hard to criticize the creator, but I won't be surprised if he is the one locked in the Pokemon vision and is the biggest obstacle against the games evolving into something different.

I played a tiny bit of Mystery Dungeon, and I think it's a great step forward. The fact that it and Pokemon Ranger are NOT produced by the flagship Game Freak studio is why I think what I wrote above is true. We simply can't expect different gameplay from the Game Freak studio, it has to come from somewhere else.

Pokemon Light and Pokemon Dark, just to avoid the "racist" claims thats bound to happen when it reaches the US. hahahha

Kyero Fox 2010-04-09 07:03

hqaha I knew the next ones would be black and white.

leodamine 2010-04-09 08:50

I just bought Soul Silver and they're making a whole new game now!? Dang, these guys won't get my money if I'm too poor to afford it lol.

Kyero Fox 2010-04-09 10:11

Would full 3d be enough? That's one of the more popular theories, based on job openings they had for 3d graphic specialists.

Interviews with the director have had him state this to be a "revolutionary" title for the franchise, so...

I'd guess Shadow rather than Dark, but yeah that was my thinking too.

Not surprising , there will be always more pokemons .

Same here, it was a fun change of pace...what's your opinion on pokemon stadium? I think you shouldn't expect much from the other pokemon titles anyway, they're not meant to differ from the original that much. This isn't Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, the pokemon universe is extremely limited (even the addition of routes and Johto was tough), with the only selling point being "more pokemon to catch", every new title (with actually new content) is a gamble. I quit pokemon because their numbers increased too much for me to care anymore, but then again why would I want to play the exact same game with a different colour brand? -ponders deeply-

Doesn't stop the media guardians from getting upset about it.

*Wishes she had a DS*

Don't really mind. If it is interesting, it will sell. So as a fan, as long as I'm entertained, I don't mind giving Nintendo my money. Kids may be stupid, but if they are entertained and satisfied with what they buy, I don't think we are in any position to criticize them.

They experiment, people complain. They don't, people complain. Don't fix what isn't broken.
Besides, they do try to experiment with stuff like Ranger and PokePark.

Also, Nintendo aims at making games suitable for everyone, so... It is pretty important to keep that image. Besides, if you want non-child-aimed images, you have stuff like short skirts and spats and stuff.

Don't underestimate those crazy people... People went crazy over Yugioh cards, people went crazy over "bad symbols" in Pokemon, so something like this is definitely going to call over some psychopath to sue Nintendo...
Not that they will win though.

You and me both.:heh:

Honestly though I just bought Soul Silver and I just don't feel like investing in the constant stream of Pokemon games being thrown out every year ot two. The main series was good up to the point of Ruby and Sapphire (those were decent), but afterwords it just became too much.

leodamine 2010-04-09 15:54

I think the next game should play like Devil Survivor. Nintendo would need some serious balls to pull off something that awesome and revolutionary though.

It never stopped CAPCOM from releasing Rockman.EXE 3 BLACK as "Megaman Battle Network 3 BLUE VERSION" on the US.

Different companies, but, yeah, it can happen.

I love Devil Survivor, but I don't think that as a tactics RPG that it really can't be considered revolutionary.
