Spoiler for Who's gone:

NeruNeru 2010-06-04 13:13

My thoughts while watching (spoilers included, but that's ok in discussion, right?):

- Demon claw! Because evil is awesome.
- Ticked off Yui is great, but seeing her anything other than hyper feels odd.
- Suplex practice on Otonashi is amusing. Kind of wanted to see some kind of training montage, though. Kids, don't try this at home!
- How has Otonashi not been found out yet? He's meeting with Tenshi, obviously keeping things secret from Yuri, and just generally being suspicious.
- Hinata's confession! He's such a straightforward idiot. Makes them a perfect couple. But aww, I was kind of hoping they'd go together.
- Overall a good episode, but nothing compared to the Otonashi's epic backstory last time.

I need to go back and watch this with better audio quality. I didn't catch half of what they were saying, so I might be misinterpreting things.

The first half was pretty fun, especially the scenes with Kanade.

So after Jack Sheppard last week, we get John Locke in this episode. Yui was paralyzed in the real world, so she really had tons of wishes to fufill. Playing soccer, baseball, do some wrestling... Otonashi helps her as much as he can, getting German Suplex'd in the process, and we get to see some entertaining games. TK was awesome as usual.

Then the last part came and... that was just weird. Yui gives up on hitting her home run, and reveals her real dream is to get married. Hinata appears and says he'll do it. She replies it's impossible because she can't walk, blah, blah, blah. Like NeruNeru, I had a shitty audio quality so I couldn't hear everything. Hinata convinces her of how happy they would be, how he'd take care of her, etc... and that's enough to make Yui disappear. What. I think I'm missing something.

There was a scene after the credit with Noda getting attacked by a "shadow". Next episode is titled "Change the world". Hmmm.

SidVicious 2010-06-04 13:56

TK is aways awesome. :p

Ice Block 2010-06-04 14:14

Wow. That after-credits scene was unexpected. Comedic first half (and TK got lots of lines this time), a little melancholic near the end. Great episode overall.

Summary:
As most had probably expected from the preview, this was a Yui episode. And, she disappears at the end.

Anyway, it starts with Otonashi conspiring with Kanade on their flawless (:heh:) plan to fulfill Yui's regret. It doesn't work out at first, but eventually, they were able to lure Yui into exposing her past to Otonashi (Kanade goes stealth the whole time). Also, looking kinda Zerg there with Hand Sonic: Version 5, Kanade.

It turns out that she was paralyzed from birth. She spent her whole life lying in bed watching pro wrestling, concerts and sports. This means that the best gift she ever had was a working body in the afterlife, which explains her excessive hyperactivity. In light of this, Otonashi decides to let her experience the quirks of having a fully functional body. They do some German suplexes, play soccer, and play baseball, among other things. In the end however, this much was still not enough to fully satisfy her, and she is still not able to disappear. After getting tired of practicing baseball, she decides to call it quits, and comments on how God is very unfair, on how all happiness was taken from her (not sure about the rest).

Then suddenly, Hinata, of all people, joins in. Now this was rather unexpected. They have a nice chat, and I think it ends up with Hinata asking Yui to marry him (not sure how it ended up there). So, this results in a hug, and this ends up making her disappear. Tis a sad day for Yui fans, but boy, did she have a sweet and beautiful ending (she even had her own special ED).

And then the after-credits scene comes. Ooyama and Noda get attacked by "shadows", which look like invisible apparitions (which cast shadows perhaps). These new enemies aren't to be trifled with, since Noda looks pretty serious here. You don't see that face from him very often.

SSS is probably thinking that Otonashi is trying to befriend Kanade to bring her over again to the SSS.

Hinata did it himself. I think he genuinely loved her

he promised Yui that they would meet again in the real world / next life / whatever and he would be with her

but Hinata himself chose to stay in purgatory for the same reasons as Otonashi. He still had a people he worried about

Lukix 2010-06-04 14:44

So does Hinata have dissappeared or what? Because I've got now chaos in my head, lol

No, he chose to stay because he is still worried about other people

ZhangKhaiEn 2010-06-04 15:01

all of my primal rage
ALL OF MY PRIMAL RAGE!!

that said, Yui'd disappear because of Hinata
but Hinata would only disappear for a ball

serenade_beta 2010-06-04 15:30

The terrible-past story is as always... that quality, but the part at the end with the (kind of shrilling) insert song and marriage thing was pretty sad.
Kind of unfortunate that Hinata didn't go along too. Now that would have been tearful...
But no, he doesn't want to so he doesn't (just gotta love this setting change... ) and Yui disappears. In other words, Hinata cares about the others, but Yui doesn't. Huh...

It's been a while since I've heard that random voice switching too...
TK's English was so random this episode... "I'll kiss you"?

......And then a Maou-quality fast and sudden development at the end...

Kanon 2010-06-04 15:37

Watching it again in good quality this time, the end does make more sense, but I'm still disappointed/pissed Yui disappeared so easily. I guess all she really wanted was for someone to accept her and love her the way she was.

She disappears right when I started to actually like her... she looked very cute with that ponytail:

When Kanade was lying by the bush, her facial expression was really "un-Kanade" like.

But lol at the confiscation, it was like, "You suck, you don't deserve to play. I am taking this" xD

RRW 2010-06-04 15:56

i am very interesting in the "shadow". possibly they gonna to have big fight against it

panzerfan 2010-06-04 16:13

My first response is that being the vocalist in Girls Dead Monster seems to be the ticket out of purgatory...

Key Board 2010-06-04 16:17

If they can shape weapons and tools from their thoughts

then it's possible that this shadow is born from their darker thoughts

It's possible. It's confirmed that Jun Maeda played persona 4 before.
