D.Gray-man (Season 2)

Yay for D.Gray-man anime in October! Wow, we Shounen Jump fans are really getting spoiled. Not only did Gintama begin recently, but Busou Renkin, Death Note, and now DGM have been announced. This is truly excellent news, all of it.

But as someone mentioned in Neosam's New Announced Anime thread, there isn't much material for an anime yet...

Hydex 2006-06-25 14:01

It seems a bit early for an anime, but why not.
The manga is great, so it deserves an adaptation :)

Noodlehead 2006-06-25 14:55

I'm looking forward to this almost as much, if not even more so than I'm looking forward to Death Note. Ironic how both of them are "darker" series and are beginning to air in October, the month of Halloween.

I wonder what studio will be doing this series? If it's BONES, I might as well throw my hands up in the air and die of happiness. Although I highly doubt it, since they're busy with other projects at the moment. And usually, BONES' works are "less dark" series... Then again, D.Gray-man really gives me the impression of Fullmetal Alchemist meets the atmosphere of Trinity Blood, with some random humor thrown in. So, who knows.

Time to speculate who the seiyuus will be! Personally, I think Paku Romi would be great as Kanda. I hope they don't cast a super-high voiced person for Rinali, that wouldn't really fit her -- she's one of my favorite characters. I wonder who'll they'll cast for Allen...

domino 2006-06-25 15:42

I can't wait for this show :D

I think Paku Romi would make a great voice for Allen. Either her or Minagawa Junko would be perfect.

As for Kanda... I can see Akira Ishida doing him perfectly (his character reminds me of a serious version of Katsura from Gintama, who is played by Akira Ishida)

As for the rest of the cast... I have no idea. :D But I bet they'll pick someone good.

Guido 2006-06-25 15:51

The title has hooked me up after learning of it from wiki.

Thanks very much, [DOT].L

[DOT].L 2006-06-25 16:07

The manga is licensed by Viz Media. Volume 1 is already on sale. Volumes 2 and 3 are due out later this year.

Nightengale 2006-06-25 22:27

In my opinion, it's wayyy too early for D.Gray-Man to be animated unless they're going with the basic idea of 13 episodes of Season 1 where it ends at
Spoiler for manga:
. That would be a good end to the anime. The end of a minor arc, the beginning to a new one, and an obvious revelation at the end.

Not to mention that this is one of the few upcoming titles that really need good animation. The atmosphere of the entire manga itself cannot be animated without deep pockets.

Seiyuus....Allen..Houshi Souchirou? Paku Romi?

Rinali's bro = Takehito Koyasu plz..

Thelastguardian 2006-06-26 02:00

...*speechless*

This is definitely too early for this series.

What has happened in the story so far? Not much if you ask me :heh:

The studio has enough material for 13 episodes max?

Guido 2006-06-26 12:36

D.Gray-man coming this fall.

Shueisha announced that the anime will be premiering in October.

Moogster 2006-06-26 13:35

At last a D.Gray-Man anime! Hopefully a good studio will pick this up. (Please BONES)

Also, yea it still too early for an anime adaptation. Since the mangaka got sick for 3-4 months? Manga just started to pick up again..

Bellevar 2006-06-26 18:13

I really looking forward to this anime!:)

I can't wait:D

I definitely agree. This moment from the manga will be very good moment to end the anime. But we'll see what it's gonna be like. I hope whichever studio is going to pick this anime up won't screw it:( Especially I think about the dark climax of the manga. Let's hope it's gonna be fine and wait.

Hey, the row for the D.Gray-man anime is gone now. Why would they have taken it off? Is there not going to be an anime after all?

~ Noodlehead

DwArD 2006-06-29 21:04

There's going to be an anime for it....no doubt about it. And I don't see why they couldn't make an anime out for it. I mean...there's about 89 chapters and new chapters are appearing almost every week. I don't see why they can't make a decent anime out of it. And frankly speaking, I'll rather thay don't follow the manga too closely or else it'll be too predictable.

Noodlehead 2006-06-29 22:10

Actually, it's 79 chapters.

I think the reason many followers of the manga are upset with the fact that the anime is coming out now is because of the fact that the main arc has finally started moving. Up until now, it was a collection of smaller arcs of introducing new characters and finding more exorcists. Plus, multiple chapters can be adapted into one episode -- most are pretty short anyway, around 16 to 18 pages.

With limited sources, there's probably going to be some filler in the anime series. Personally, I don't really mind, as long as it ultimately sticks to a solid plotline in the end. I'm just excited that it's going to be animated.

Leo_Otaku 2006-06-29 22:31

OMG that is so awesome! I fell in love with it a few yaers ago when I read it in shounen Jump. I love the design and story! I'm so excited...2006= good year for anime.

Let's hope they don't pull a Black Cat and rush it toward the end. Or make up a half ass ending.

Ja-Y-Ce 2006-07-30 11:37

Haohmaru 2006-07-30 14:24

How is TMS entertainment? Do they have high animation quality? I haven't seen Lupin III, Detective Conan, Angel Heart so I really don't know.

Llian 2006-07-30 16:36

I read of this begin made into an anime, I just really hope it comes out nicely and that they give it there all. Though I'm not really expecting it to be better than the manga. But I am looking foward to it ^_^

Yo Haohmaru x3

Haohmaru 2006-07-30 18:20

Yo Lilly :). You're not expecting it to be better than the manga. I've just started reading the manga and it's pretty good. I really hope the anime lives up to the manga.

Llian 2006-07-30 20:13

Lol yeah, but the manga is awesome I thought it was going to be something like Chrno Crusade but it was different and more entertaining.

Agreed, that would be an excellent ending to Season 1 =P Keep those who haven't read the manga on the edge of their seats i'm sure lol.

I love the manga and hope that the anime can live up to expectations =P

Noodlehead 2006-08-04 13:21

Lo and behold! Scans for the anime!

So, what do you think of the character designs? I personally feel that they're quite obviously different from Hoshino-sensei's style, but they're better than I expected. Now to hope for consistent animation quality... I can't wait until October 3rd!

~ Noodlehead

striderm 2006-08-05 04:15

The anime couldn't possibly end at 13 episodes, I believe it has a bit more material than that. By the time of October, I think there would be a lil more material for around 26-40 eps.

Yashiro 2006-08-05 18:19

The designs are different that those of the manga, but they're basically what I expected. I'm hoping for consistent animation as well...I'm really looking foward to the D.Gray-Man anime, I really enjoy the manga.

Haohmaru 2006-08-05 19:50

Consistent animation is the most important thing. They can't really change the story or anything like that.

Spooky-Electric 2006-08-05 20:18

woooo.. this one should be fun.

The manga is not that far along. The anime should catch up fairly quickly, then we have to hear everyone whine about filler.

D. Gray Man

Ok, I'm sure there isn't any thread like this, cause I checked and the only thing that came up was the manga.

Anyway, we're about one month away from the premiere of D. Gray Man. I personally started reading the manga and loved it. Guess it reminded a bit like Full Metal Alchemist, they even have the chibi jokes in it.

Not much info on the site yet, but what else can there be found :)

D. Gray Man Anime Potential

What are your expectations for this anime? Do you want it to be a concise 24-26 episode anime that comes to its own end different from the manga? How popular do you think it will/can become? Will it have that certain charm to rise in popularity similar to Bleach, Naruto, One Piece?

It certainly has the right elements in terms of characters. The badass, the main char whos a dork but becomes really badass, the hot chick who can fight, a funny character. A creepy/frightening cast of villains and monsters. the support characters.

What i think it lacks and it may be it's downfall in terms of popularity potential is the story they have so far..... theres just not enough. So either they are going to drag the first couple of arcs out A LOT or this may end up being a short anime.

I think there should be a rule for animes that follow mangas... you need 200 chapters before you are officially allowed to start an anime =P

Lotiman 2006-09-13 07:28

For me, it is better than Chrno Crusade. Banzai.

Nightengale 2006-09-13 08:02

It has potential, but seriously..any more than 13 episodes and I fear a big fuck-up. There's one point in the manga where it would've ended season 1 PERFECTLY, with the right mix of angst, drama, cliffhangers, foreshadowing post-a great battle. As for dragging arcs.....Most end up bad than good.

As for popularity....I'd say it's got all the right formula. If there's anything lacking, I would say that it still lacks "the one arc that blows everyone away". Just as Yu-Gi-Oh's popularity skyrocketed with the Duel Monster's arc of Pegasus Island arc and the Battle City Arc, Bleach with the SS Arc, One Piece with the Arlong Park and Alabasta Arc, Naruto with the Zabuza/Haku and Chuunin Examinations Arc, I'd say D.Gray-Man still lacks the arc that makes people hunger for more, more, more, and more. As it is, it's already one of the more popular SJ series. It just needs one last push, though that last push is hard to reach.
