Comedy Gender Bender Romance School Shounen

This manga based on the ever popular AKB48 group.

This series is about a guy called Urakawa Minoru crossdressing as a girl to participate in a female idol group audition (akb48). The main objective is to help the girl he likes, Yoshinaga Hiroko, pass the audition. Yoshinaga Hiroko's dream is to become like her favourite idol who is in the akb48 group. This audition happens to be her final try, so Minoru crossdresses as Minori and took part in the audition to make sure she realizes her dream. Hiroko got qualified eventually, however, the shocking news was Minoru was qualified as well. Thus, the road to becoming a female idol begins...

Spoiler for my impressions:

Oh I like Takamina too :D but I also like that cool girl in the main AKB group :(
This manga is quite good, but it's hard to distinguish each character when they're not talking :( I mean, all of them looks similar :heh:

Copy/pasta from the 48 anime thread:

In its own way, does idol idealism well with some poking at itself/others while maintaining heavy references in and out of the franchise throughout.

Soft spot for Maeda here. Minori-cchi is also great.

Definitely was unexpectedly drawn to the manga. The main character is very motivated, and his desire to help his love interest is rather touching.

Akizuki Ryou's return?

Minoru ----> Minori? Shiraishi-kun?

similar but for different reasons

Vol 5 just came out in Japan. It's a surprisingly good manga though and quite amusing. It's a lot more serious about idols than you'd expect. The actual AKB48 members are written a bit like caricatures but it's roughly what their image is like. No Nakayan sucks though, she should be in the mnaga too.

It is actually a pretty interesting manga, though the portrayal of actual AKB members seems a bit weird for for me, image-wise as Shouta says. I still has hard time adapting to a cool, badass Atsusko or the cute, super loli Minami.

Well....can't argue with that. But they don't have do mutually exclusive do they? Maybe touching is the wrong word though...

Spoiler for 23:

Every chapter I wonder how all the fans and the other AKB members would react if Minori was revealed to be a guy.

I can't imagine what will happen to the group if Minori left (when someone find out about his true gender):heh:

Pretty good manga sales for the sixth volume.

*4, *84,652 *84,652 Peacemaker vol.8
11, *43,648 *43,648 AKB49 - Renai Kinshi Jourei vol.6
12, *43,092 *43,092 AKB49 - Renai Kinshi Jourei vol.6 Special Edition

Would've taken 4th spot if you could combine the two versions. Hopefully this bodes well for a future anime adaption of this manga.

Yeah, forget about the monster series, usually if you can sell over 50,000, you're a success and will be able to stay around. The sale is not bad at all.

Shadow5YA 2012-01-28 12:39

Yeah, even if I'm not a fan of AKB48, this is a well written manga.

so, he hasn't found out by others?

Mostly no. I think Maeda Atsuko might know, but his secret is still safe.

Von Himmel 2012-01-31 11:49

It seems that Hiroko..might not be able to continue her career as an idol anymore :( Ugh, I thought everything are going to be fine ;__;
