Odd audio problem...
I currently use windows media player and winamp to access my audio/movie files with the extensions .avi, .mp3, etc.
However, recently, just all of a sudden, my speakers stopped having any sound. I experimented with several audio files and found that .midi files were the only ones that were giving me any sound.
My .avi movies have no sound, just pictures; and my mp3 files have no sound either. The .midi files are giving me sound, but there are no numbers displayed for kbps nor kHz (In winamp).
I thought that maybe my speakers weren't connected properly, so I tried the following:
control panel -> Sound effect manager -> Jack Sensing -> Start
When I pressed start, the bar near the bottom right (Right beside the "Surround-kit" button) began to fill up. And for that brief few seconds, I got some sound (From an mp3 file that I had on). But as soon as the bar filled up, the sound stopped again, and I got this message:
"Please stop other audio applications before starting."
I am completely baffled by this problem. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Reboot. Looks like a program has hoarded the sound card for itself.
Yeah, that's what I thought. But no, rebooting doesn't fix the problem.
