XPS 8300 vs XPS 8500

i order a XPS8300 (699.99) over the weekend and i just found out dell is offering my company a discount on the XPS8500 (638.09). I talk to the dell people and they said they give a 5% discount on the XPS8300 if i keep the order.

is there much of a difference between the 2? is there a particular reason to ditch the 8300 for the 8500? other then $30?

The CPU on the 8500 is based on Ivy Bridge, as opposed to Sandy Bridge on the 8300. This should mean lower power consumption.

The i5 3450 is actually a bit slower than the i7 2600 despite being newer.

The Radeon HD 7570 uses the same core as the 6670, but is clocked lower. The Radeon HD 6670 is the faster card.

The only advantage of the 8500 is the built in wifi and lower power consumption (which really doesn't matter much on desktop). The 8300 is the faster machine by a little.

I would just save 30 bucks and go for the 8500 though. The performance differences is pretty small, and for most activities, both machines are fast enough anyways.

Other than saving a little extra $ the only reason off the top of my head I can see to go for the 8500 would be if that little bit extra of battery life.

So unless you do cpu intensive apps where a little extra speed would make a difference I'd go for the 8500 if it were me.... :)
