Far Cry 3

Didn't see a thread about this
http://www.denofgeek.com/games/23368...-story-trailer

I tried out Far Cry 2 and wasn't impressed by it since you couldn't get from Point A to Point B without running into a freakin patrol every 1-2 minutes. Plus there's no stealth in the game either. that and it took forever to get from Point A to Point B.

Far Cry 3 seems to go more on the RPG route with a skill tree and it seems with the new takedowns you could potentially go silent killing on all of them.

Another new thing is the fact that since your on an island you need to hunt animals and forage plants to create new materials to carry more ammo and guns, etc.

They also seem to take a page from Assassin's Creed Eagle eye where you climb on top of a spire and view the entire area. In this case you locate a radio tower, disable the jamming and then you see a large portion of the surrounding area. They said that this map is several times bigger than Far Cry 2.

You're also involved in capturing outposts which you can then use with your allies.

All in all, sounds like a great game but the system specs are crazy.

And a DLC mission....MONKEYS

Not sure if PETA will complain or not:heh:

What the first things you're doing in the game?

Inside of two months from now I'm going on an archer approved rampage across the jungle.

PETA will not like my actions.

I'm not looking forward to the drugs in this game at all.

I want to play through the whole game using only a bow and knife if possible. Then again that silenced sniper rifle with the reflex sight is calling my name.

With all the high praises this game has been getting, and the great gameplay footage I have been seeing, as well as the RPG mechanics, I'm very tempted to run out and buy this game. Unfortunately.....my primary PC Gaming rig is starting to show it's age so even if I was to run this game on Medium Settings (Direct X 9 Mode.....damn, I can't believe Direct X 9 is becoming obsolete fast. I'm getting old....) it's still probably run too slow for me. So I'll hold off until I get my PC upgraded around late fall of this year (with some much needed help from my brother). Though waiting that long is gonna be a pain for me, providing that there are some other interesting shooters I am looking forward to this year such as Crysis 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Having spent a fair bit of time playing this game, it is extremely fun to play.

Like Crysis, there is a definite advantage to playing this stealthily; having said that stealth is not the only approach, and every approach you take can be viable (albeit with varying levels of effectiveness).

The suppressed .50 BMG sniper rifle is pretty broken, however :p And it's actually really easy to get the best SMG in the game - you could do it in less than an hour.

Funny enough, seeing that footage of Blood Dragon instantly brought back memories of watching a whole lot of 80s B Action movies I would often watch with dad in my teen years. I'm still on the fence about picking this one up. I appreciate the approach they are going with this one, I'm not too keen on games that are made into deliberate spoofs. I find them rather difficult to get into, as I prefer games with a more serious tone (and I risk being called out as a Pessimistic Gamer by saying this).

Wild Goose 2013-04-10 01:43

There's place for both silliness as well as seriousness. We can have this game in one corner, just as we can have Spec Ops: The Line.
