PLOT
Tomoko Kuroki is proud of all she's accomplished in middle school. Over the last three years she's managed to make one friend, talk to guys on no less than six occasions, and once she even picked up a pencil somebody dropped. With social skills like these, she's sure she has what it takes to become super-popular in high school, just like the characters in all her favorite anime and otome games.

...But two months into her high school career Tomoko is faced by the harsh reality -- not only hasn't she made any friends, she hasn't even talked to anyone outside her family since the first day of class. Well, if people won't recognize her inherent awesomeness on their own, she'll just have to show them how cool she is.

So basically if you take Kimi ni Todoke, give Sawako the personality of Satou from Welcome to the NHK, get rid of Kazehaya, Yano, Yoshida and anyone else who was ever nice to her, and turn the whole thing into a black comedy along the lines of the original British version of The Office ... okay, it's nothing like Kimi ni Todoke.

I just read the manga and it was good, so I will watch it.

The first two volumes sold over a hundred thousand copies apiece, and the second volume even managed to make the bestseller list, so of course they're going to try to turn it into a solid hit with an anime.

I have even heard that some even imported 10 copies of the manga's volume 1.

Wow.

Frau Koujiro as Tomoko?

Kanon 2012-12-20 09:39

I figured this would happen at some point, but that's really fast. There are only 3 volumes out...

As expected as many people have already. I can't wait to see how they'll animate Kuroki. Will she look cute, but creepy, or just creepy :heh:?

It'd be rather easy to make filler material for this; well, easy in the sense that most chapters are self-contained. There's no way they'd be able to stretch out a chapter over 1 whole episode, so I imagine they'll run with a half-episode type format(y'know, like Kyou no Go no Ni/Today in class 5-2).

Coldlight 2012-12-20 11:34

Everyone's favorite black humor manga is becoming an anime?

Awesome. I've been following this closely and this is definitely good (or unfortunate, if you're Tomoko) news.

zeniselv 2012-12-20 12:09

im wondering over wich format they are going with, because if they are following the source material closely i can only see it as 5 min shorts.

Well, Mokocchi has a ton of fantasies in the manga that are referenced but never shown and could easily be expanded upon. In particular, I'd love to see one where she dreams about being Mitsuko from Battle Royale.

But I'm not sure how much that's necessary. If they follow the 3-chapters-per-episode approach of Squid Girl and Daily Lives of High School Boys, they only need 36-39 chapters for one cour, and they're already up to 32. Considering it comes out twice a month, they'll have enough material by the time the anime starts.

I think the bigger issue for the adaptation will be how they handle the fact that 90% of the manga is Mokocchi talking to herself. Whoever gets cast for that part is going to have to carry the series. And I don't think any of the popular seiyuu have the have the right voice, so they can't just pop HanaKana in there.

I am not sure how to react 0_o

well it easy to animate. since basically it is slice of life.

Thought i wonder if there is increased of japanese depression when this air

mystogan 2012-12-20 12:46

ah!!, finally such a thread is here, this getting animated is the nicest thing i have heard in a long time

Westlo 2012-12-21 01:30

Wasn't really impressed with what I read of the manga but it might click with me if the anime was well done and the VA casting is inspired... might check it out if it comes out in a minor season like Summer.

MeoTwister5 2012-12-21 02:05

Did I ever mention that I'm strangely attracted to women like her?

No?

Haak 2012-12-21 02:33

I remember reading this and thinking it was utterly hilarious. Can't believe this is getting an anime adaptation.

I laughed after reading the synopsis above. My congratulations to you if you wrote that up! I'm now intrigued! :D
