Something like SAO..

Hey all,

I'm "semi" new to Anime (if that's possible :P).
I've seen Naruto (all episodes) and Sword Art Online (SAO) (all released episodes) so far.

What I'm looking for is something like SAO, but not because of the virtual reality mmorpg style, but because of the romance in it (Kirito - Asuna). This really got to me and that's what I want to find in a different Anime too. Of course it also needs action (like battles etc..) and a fantasy setting wouldn't be wrong either. Point is, they hook up in the middle of the series and fight to protect each other, THAT'S what I'm looking for.

Even though I appreciate all suggestions, I would like to ask, only people that have seen SAO (all released episodes), the provide suggestions, as they know (hopefully) what I'm talking about.

PS: I watch Anime, not the Manga :S (flame all you want :P)

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you give Stigma of the Wind a shot ? I'm sure it fits your request.

Thanks mate! :)

I have seen the first 5 episodes now and it looks awesome :)

But due to the fact that it's only 24 episodes in total, you have other suggestions as mentioned above? For after Kaze no Stigma :)

SAO is totally not my cup but if the main thing that you want is action/romance with some depth I would go with the following:

Baccano! - including OVA. It is different from SAO but it has romance and most importantly action. Series are more mature.

Bleach - no romance but you'll find a typical lady in trouble that needs help in there. MC does care for her.

Busou Renkin - romance later on. Though anime style is different and a bit weird which takes some time to get used to.

Fate/stay night - this one could fit well with what you are searching for. Actually it will come the closest to SAO from what I've recommended so far. It also has a prequel Fate/Zero which is 10 times better. However, in your case I recommend to watch F/SN first and then F/Z later.

Inuyasha - actual romance develops only at the end but main characters have a very deep bond. It is also a fantasy world and there is some other romance going on.

Mai HiME - has several couples and their relationships play huge role in future events. I think it could be of your liking.

Mirai Nikki - more of a one sided thing where girl is totally crazy and will kill anyone who tries to hurt her man... main hero is a loser though =/

Otome Youkai Zakuro - could work too.

Romeo x Juliet - that's a given

Senjou no Valkyria: Gallian Chronicles - romance develops only towards the end.

Since you are new, I tried to recommend a bit of different styles too so you could have a feel to them. Getting stuck with just one style is not smart. But that's for you to decide.

If I really have to underline any then it would be F/SN, Mai HiME and Inuyasha. I believe those 3 are the closest ones to SAO style. But that's my opinion :)

Hope it helps.

P.S. If you exclude action then Clannad and especially it sequel Clannad After Story fit very well. Series have no action but main couple has the deepest relationship in probably whole anime world. At least I haven't see any other series that would go in depth so much since series follow their life at school and then after they get married.

Shakugan no Shana, Really good, the romance is very slow. the relationship just move at a very slow speed, which annoyed me alot.
Guilty Crown, Very good, you will get addicted.
Angel Beat, is very funny, a little romance. action.
Zero no Tsukaima, truly amazing, There some Herman element which bug the crap out of me, the herman element is just there to cause trouble for the main couple, like it add some jealously to it.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, there no action in this one, but it romance and comedy.
To Aru Majutsu no Index, action, comedy and romance. the romance show once in a while, not a major genre.
