Who do you write like?

http://iwl.me/

So apparently some automated literature-comparing system thinks my writing style is most similar to authors of various famed gothic literature and the guy who wrote Lolita.

Wonderful. I'm officially disgusted by myself.

Midonin 2011-03-07 11:29

I submitted both of my Milky Holmes stories ("A Scandal in Yokohama", "Three Act Comedy") and got Arthur Conan Doyle as the response. Given that that's pretty much what I was aiming for...

Mr. Wang 2011-03-07 12:46

I submitted a short little fluffy romantic story that I wrote a long time ago, something typical of my rather... whimsical style I suppose, and it seems in this respect, I write like Neil Gaiman... interesting.

In regards to another thing I've written, an assignment for school, which the person telling the story is a wise-cracking Italian talking about the ways to entertain yourself set in the 1920's, it says that I write like David Foster Wallace...

I'll probably post my works here later so perhaps any of you who know the works of these authors might be able to compare, though this whole "who do you write like" thing is rather intriguing, yet I wonder how it tries to analyze word-choice, and it's... accuracy, so to speak might be rather subjective...

You feel disgusted by yourself than your writing is compared to one of the bet satirist of english litterature (Swift) and one of the greatest american poet/tale teller ( Poe ), I don't know what expectation you have but I Can't find what so disgustigng about that.

( Okay, maybe by being associated with Dan Brown... )

You all do understand this is based on some word statistics and is nothing more then a vanity item.

Rolling a dice would probably be more accurate.

Yeah, probably, just as odd as any other poll you might find on the internet to describe who or what you are, but at least I find them mildly amusing. If anything, they make you stop to think, and then go, "Huh..."

Yeah, it's pretty obvious. As I'm noted on other boards:

Quote:

I think it literally just does a word count and decides from there.

Mentioning little girls or young female characters in general -> Nabokov
Saying "Dracula" a lot -> OMG YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY JUST LIKE BRAM STOKER
Lots of weird archaic or mythological names -> Lovecraft

Oh yeah, and someone on another board tried this sample:

Quote:

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. V(^_^)
Also, James, while John had had 'had', had had 'had had'; 'had had' had had a better effect on the teacher.
and got Rudyard Kipling.

So apparently mentioning lots of animals -> Jungle Book guy
and

I think I'm cute.
I know I'm sexy.
I've got the looks,
That drive the girls wild
I've got the moves, that really move 'em.
I send chills up.
Up and down their spines.

I'm just a sexy boy,
Sexy boy
I'm not your boy toy,
Boy toy
I'm just a sexy boy,
Sexy boy
I'm not your boy toy,
Boy toy

I make 'em hot.
I make 'em shiver.
Their knees get weak,
Whenever I'm around.
They see me walk,
They hear me talk,
I make 'em feel,
Like they're on cloud nine

I'm just a sexy boy,
Sexy boy
I'm not your boy toy,
Boy toy
I'm just a sexy boy,
Sexy boy
I'm not your boy toy,
Boy toy

Eat your heart out girls
Hands off the merchandise
Result: J. D. Salinger

Midonin 2011-03-07 18:28

No wonder I got Doyle. With TOMH as Holmesian as it is, the algorithm wouldn't have arrived at anything else.

Mr. Wang 2011-03-07 20:14

Because I had nothing better to do, I copied first 500 words of The Great Gatsby and this test thing said that the writing was like that of H. P. Lovecraft's... Hard to see how the man behind Cosmicism and the Cthulu Mythos can be compared to F. Scott Fitzgerald...

Interestingly, I copy-and-pasted the word "Gatsby" 50 times, and the site said the writing was like that of J.D. Salinger.

Yeah, this gave me a good laugh :heh:

felix 2011-03-08 12:23

Copied the word "porn" a few hundred times and got Cory Doctorow. Who the hell is that? :heh: He also comes up if you write anime or manga.

milan kyuubi 2011-03-08 12:31

Posted my story (one shot fanfic) and got Bram Stoker :D

Book chat with Hagoshod

In my never-ending quest to write as many weird corruption fanfics as possible, I've come up with a story concept in which Sophia Esteed

http://i55.tinypic.com/2it1v08.jpg

(this girl)

is somehow reprogrammed to be evil. If you've played SO3, you know what I'm talking about.

But I'm not exactly sure how to pull it off, nor where to really go with it once I've figured out how. Any suggestions?

RWBladewing 2011-03-21 16:21

As much as I dislike the character archetype, you could make her go full yandere and it'd be pretty believable; she already showed some pretty clingy/jealous tendencies in the game. Something along the lines of her seeing Fayt and Maria/Mirage together and snapping, maybe with a little encouragement from an outside party, etc. Maybe not as direct a reprogramming as you're looking for though, considering the storyline, though it could be a starting point.

Hagoshod 2011-03-22 00:02

Is this close to what you're talking about?

And, just as a warning:

Quote:

I'm not writing any more of this because I literally have no clue whatsoever where to go with it.

And if a bunch of people keep asking me to continue it, I'll just have Chapter 3 fall back on the Bardiel Scenario to prove how I'm sooo not going to keep writing this.

Trust me. I'm crazy enough to do it.

Hagoshod 2011-03-29 22:27

Somebody decided to play with fire, and this happened:

Chapter 3:

Ending 1:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6849528/5/Test_Drive

Ending 2:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6849528/4/Test_Drive

I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Hagoshod 2011-04-05 00:12

Animesuki, I have another problem. I keep writing stories where Cure Pine gets killed.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6662929/1/Canned_Pineapple
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6833097/1/A_Battle_of_Wills
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6878113/1/Betrayal

I can't explain it. I'm not sure if it's a repressed fetish I have, or Meryl Streep brainwashed me to do it, or what. For some reason, I just feel compelled to write fanfics where Cure Pine dies. And it's not like I dislike Cure Pine or anything. On the contrary, I own the S.H. Figuarts figure of her and I have one of her voice actress themes on my playlist. I can't explain it.

What remedy do you suggest for this horrible, horrible affliction, Animesuki?

Story Corner

Hello, AnimeSuki. I'd like to introduce a Sailor Moon R fanfic I just finished writing. It was designed as part of my life-long mission to CORRUPT EVERYTHING, and I thought it would be fun to share.

Hagoshod 2011-11-01 03:24

Hi Animesuki. I'm currently working on a netorare story.

Do you like netorare stories?

Masuzu 2011-11-01 03:50

I'm okay with NTR.
