Quote:

Part of an academy was summoned to another world, but the protagonist is the janitor. A certain girl genius of a magic school, accidentally summoned dozens of students and teachers.

At that time, students and teachers gained power but not the janitor (three years without a contract extension, failed to get a job after having graduated from a third-rate university, somehow still a contractor at 25 years old, as janitor 2 years, with a take-home monthly salary of less than ¥120,000).

And what janitor-san wished from the Goddess who took pity on him was…
Over 90+ chapters so far with 4 volumes and ongoing. There's 20+ chapters translated and the series contains fantasy/adventure/supernatural themes. Starts off a bit weak but I think the story picks up a bit soon. The MC (Kurando) improves as the story progresses. Fairly decent artwork covers as well.

Oh, someone finally made a thread for it.
For the record, this is my favorite novel on Narou. The author has a good way of investing you into all his characters, good or bad.
He also is pretty good at depicting new lands and different cultures, and does a good job conveying different beliefs between cultures.
The MC himself is stubborn and pessimistic and looks like a logical thinker at first glance, but he actually acts more on emotion than anything.
The start is probably the hardest to pick up for this novel, but that's kind of true for any novel anyway.

And the raw link and name for those that might want it: 用務員さんは勇者じゃありませんので
Artist also does pretty nice artwork and I think he conveys the protagonist's dour facial expressions very well.

Answer to the usual three questions are No (but partner cat is), kinda but not really, and yes.

Main character seems creepy also also translations are really bad ,i didnt like it is a waste of time.

VooXoo 2016-04-18 10:25

I already like it only from the cover.

Kaito Yamakage 2016-04-18 10:27

What viciously awesome looking fangs the MC has.

wuhugm 2016-04-18 10:41

I've heard that considerable Do-M disposition is required to read this, is that true?

sasuke706 2016-04-18 10:56

Not particularly.
There's pretty frequently bitter developments and ends to things, but compared to shit that happens in Re:Zero, for example, it's pretty light.
Nothing too extreme really happens, but some might find a couple things frustrating. Which you're supposed to, since they frustrate the protagonist even moreso.
It happens enough that the Narou commenters are always wary of it, but to turn that around, it also means that the story is mostly composed of not frustrating developments, since there'd be no need to be wary of something always there.
It also has some serious Monster Hunter elements to the story.

The protagonist gets shit on somewhat often because he introduces himself as a refugee (homeless, foreigner, and wanderer all in one and people generally don't like that), but the law is generally on his side since he follows it pretty faithfully. That and he insists on getting things like receipts for proof, since he's used to getting screwed over since his time in Japan.

Also I just noticed the "school life" listed in the genre. You wot m8?
School life isn't a thing in this. The MC's background being him working at a school doesn't count as that.

And color illustrations from volume 4 because I feel like it.
Spoiler for Illustrations:

The MC in this is more angsty than the teens who stole his legendary sword.

I could never figure out what exactly he was even traveling around for, he wants human contact, but hates and can't trust them, he would have been fine in the cave with the cat forever.

This one made me want to hole up in a cave with some cats for the rest of my life. Not a lot of appeal unless you're into that.

wuhugm 2016-04-18 11:08

^^Lol, the page on novel updates shows school life genre. If I'm not mistaken, the entry on that site can only be done by the translator. That means the translator have no idea what they are translating, lol~ no wonder Arthand is furious~

Re:Zero's bad ends counted as never happen, right? Can not be compared then...

Which one of them girls got Kurando's D btw?

I won't say the MC doesn't come off as angsty sometimes, but on the other hand, him not getting somewhat emotional would be more unnatural. It makes him feel more human, which I really like.
And the teens are absolutely more angsty anyway.

He's travelling because he wants to find somewhere to belong, basically. He doesn't want completely no human contact, but he never fit into society to begin with so he doesn't want too much of it either. He also wants to get away from the heroes' influence of power since him existing itself is a blemish on the perfect hero's record.
He has very contradicting emotions and opinions on places he wants to be, which again, I consider a very human trait. It also goes to show how his actions are driven more on emotion than reason.
Besides, he literally couldn't stay in that cave forever due to a natural disaster.
Spoiler for For example on his social ideals:

I haven't read for a while. Anyone knows if he's met up with that sexy bat lady again?

wuhugm 2016-04-18 11:34

^^Mendokusee Seikaku dana... despite having blatant villain face lol :heh:

But temporary separation from heroines, isn't that like Kuroneko? Why didn't you recommend this then? Is that because he shows the tendency of following Satou's path of romancing only prostitutes?

sasuke706 2016-04-18 11:35

^I kind of did in the Narou thread. It has a surprising amount of similarities. But in Kuroneko the potential heroines are more obvious.
The majority of the 'heroines' are hard to even tell if they're romantically interested in the protagonist or not. He also mostly 'appreciates' women without ever really doing anything with them.
The overall feel is also slightly different. This has more of a darker feel to it, where Shuuya in Kuroneko keeps things pretty lighthearted.
Not even sure if they are temporary separations. A good deal of them could be permanent.

Edit: While I would say there's heroines (a girl or two that get some focus per arc), I'd be hard pressed to really say there's any actual romance.
I mean, there could be some in the future? It really depends on how things turn out once bat lady catches up.

^^He hasn't but she's working on it.
She seems to be planning to call him 'master' again despite the slave liberation stuff that happened.
She wants to see his troubled expression when she shows up out of the blue and calls him that.

cabman11 2016-04-18 11:40

What chapter was she last seen in?

sasuke706 2016-04-18 11:43

She's only been popping up in the After Chapters, so this would be the latest.

Namorax 2016-04-18 12:16

Well, from what I have seen so far in the chapters, the MC is wa~y to chilled out, but that's just my impression. He has reasons, even if they only make sense to him, but I wouldn't consider hi m angsty (yet).

This dude from the comments looks like a shut in EMO man why the hell would he leave his woman behind to travel...

Just one thing can someone tell me if he got revenge for the people that stole his shit later on?

But he hasn't left anyone behind. So far there hasn't been anyone close enough to him to be considered 'his woman' yet.
The bat lady chasing after him is her having a change of mind after he ditched her ass. If she was willing to be with him to begin with, he probably would've taken her along.
The other heroine-like girls also go off to do their own things, so yeah.

Spoiler for Revenge or not:

Damn dude thats so harsh reallity there so he got no love in life even with these woman reciving his help and on top of that shit he can`t even break the hero second ball...

Just one more question does he have a clear goal in his life like in artifureta the goal was return to Japan or in Inuyasha that keeps traveling to defeat some villain? I hope he isn`t just traveling aimless because there is nothing worst that that in a novel.

cabman11 2016-04-18 14:03

So there's still hope of getting that sword back
