Plot Summary

Quote:

The greatest assassin on Earth knew only how to live as a tool for his employers—until they stopped letting him live. Reborn by the grace of a goddess into a world of swords and sorcery, he’s offered a chance to do things differently this time around, but there’s a catch...He has to eliminate a super-powerful hero who will bring about the end of the world unless he is stopped. Now known as Lugh Tuatha Dé, the master assassin certainly has his hands full, particularly because of all the beautiful girls who constantly surround him. Lugh may have been an incomparable killer, but how will he fare against foes with powerful magic?

Ep.1

I didn't expect much from the author of Redo of healer but I have to say that was pretty good first ep. Both Fantasy and Real world section are done well to make me interested.

MC is quite likable so far and the girls are cute. Some little fan services are also nice :D Looking forward to learn more about the characters next ep.

Oh and that OP is cool.

Tenzen12 2021-10-06 12:52

Redo was written with only one intent... to sell well. Given he succeed at that I don't think there is any need to doubt author skill.

Dop 2021-10-06 15:42

Ok. Who would rather have had a show about the gnarly old dude going round with his sidekick doing assassinations and making daring escapes? I know I would, rather than yet another generic fantasy setting.

Redo was done because author wanted to test how much risky content he can put in LN without getting to much outrage. His other works are more tame like this one.

Gotta admit I didn't read the title and just jumped into ep 1, decent first ep but yeah about to change a whole lot of everything...

Heck yea, that'd have been awesome. The show could've been the assasin making his way to Japan and starting with the school, then having to take the noob assasins out on missions. Having to kill people while compensating for the screw ups of his class at the same time, that'd have been pretty interesting.

He actually wanted to test how much risqué content he could get away with. Anime has had over the top risky (dangerous situations) content for decades :)

Honestly, I like this first episode but mostly the flashback portion because the MC didn't get isekai'd yet and we get to see how proficient he was as an assassin. The scene where he schooled the amateur is the highlight for me.

But then I can only sigh the moment he met the goddess. Well, here we go again with all the isekai trappings....

That said, the first episode gave me enough good will that I'll give the following eps a try. Just the fact that the MC is a Pro instead of a useless Hikki-NEET is alread a step in a good direction.

Side note: the fact that the episode referenced Alan Smith/Smithee and the MC gave it a jab about "boring movie" is a deep-cut that I didn't expect. Much appreciated.

Yeah it could've been a show like the Phantom anime which would've been great.

I do agree pre-reincarnation story looks great and we certainly don't have enough these. Well it's not something right up author alley in neither genre or tone, so it's question how well it would end.

FlareKnight 2021-10-07 16:29

I do like that they gave his old life as much attention as they did. If you are going to have it be an isekai story then let's have that previous matter leading to being isekai'd. Too many stories just make the character an isekai protagonist without that mattering at all to the plot. This wasn't just spending 5 minutes saying "he's a great assassin...well off to another world now."

Definitely get the desire to just follow his cool life in a regular world. That wouldn't have been bad. Of course I don't think this will be bad either. Should have a good journey with this guy transitioning to a more fantasy setting.

The Opening is pretty nice! Showing the main character and his team/Harem off pretty well with some dynamic shots and a nice theme! The ladies look as deadly as they are lovely .

Pretty effective way of setting up our protagonists and what they do by having them infiltrate a human smuggling ring selling off dolled up young girls to old noblemen...they definitely earned getting slaughtered, especially the noble lady who was running it .

So we're introduced to the "team," which is the noble (?) white-haired mage girl, the blonde who flashes her panties whenever she draws a weapon and seems to be a servant, and the black-haired girl in a catsuit who seems to be their information specialist and views the main character as a brother? Looking forward to getting to better know them and their relationship with the MC :).

I do find it ironic that "Allen" in his past life didn't really care about the justice of his actions and just did whatever the organization told him to do but ended up reincarnated into an assassin whose job seems to be finding and then terminating the worst of the worst in the new world he resides in :eyespin:.

Man, poor "Milla." Top of her class, but she really doesn't have the temperament or practical skill to be a top-tier assassin, and not only does she get schooled by her partner and utterly outclassed, but it turns out she was just a pawn to get him to let his guard down so the organization they work for could kill the guy she was assigned with. And she had a solid bust and butt to boot. Is it too much to hope she might have been reincarnated too :(?

Why did his organization want to kill him when he was so loyal and seemed fine with retirement? He only got mad when he was betrayed. Did they want to cut off all loose ends they felt he had? Did the Goddess manipulate them into killing him so she could use him to kill the Hero :eyebrow:?

Speaking of the Goddess, Yukari Tamura really does a great job playing a sadistic and eccentric Goddess, but I question her motives for wanting to kill the Hero...is he corrupt and evil or destined to be? Or is she really an evil Goddess :twitch:?

In other words, you want them to make an anime of Candy & Cigarettes? I'm all for that.

So far I like this series. Nothing all that special yet, but worth the time watching it.

I gathered those people were put on hit list because they got too bold and were affecting international diplomacy. Not because they were scum. As in if they kept the pillaging local they would have been ignored.

Definitely a good question. It feels like this could be going either way. Possible the hero really is a threat to the world. That's always possible. But with the attitude of that Goddess I could see her actually being the problem. That she's more worried that the hero will eventually threaten her so she wants him killed off. That could be an interesting twist for later on with the MC actually having to go against his client here instead of just serving as a tool.

It seemed like they were investigating them in the first place because of the human trafficking and stumbled into the banditry, which doubled the need to take them out.

It might also simply reflect a difference in priorities among the group. Seems entirely possible the MC only cared once the crimes started to risk international relations. While seems very likely the rest of the group would have wanted to crush this slave trade anyways. It just happened to work out that both sides could be satisfied taking down this target.

Just feels like the MC would have to go on a character arc anyways. So entirely possible he starts out only caring about the bigger picture and eventually starts to care about people in general.

Wow, really digged this episode! The opening world and the assassination group was super exciting to watch. The anagram spells and other magical details(what little we were given of it) were pretty great too.

The old guy MC was pretty cool; I was pretty much on the edge of my seat when he pulled the gun on his assistant. It was pretty obvious what would happen once he said he was going to retire, but nonetheless, at least it was an interesting way to go versus the usual methods used in his line of work(e.g. getting into a car and it suddenly exploding, or getting sniped from 1000 ft away).

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
