So....cute girls doing Cyber Formula? :heh:
|
I wonder if it will be an actual series or another TV-special like previous 2 sports anime from Yostar?
|
What will people appreciate more? The racing, the cars, or the girls in form fitting racing outfits? Or all three ;).

Full CGI which is bad for some people but I am fine with it as it looks decent.

It's a general problem of the industry as they rarelly use decent FPS even for full CGI anime.

This series looks... interesting if nothing else. Decent cast too so I'll check it out anyway. |

Nothing can rival Future Grand Prix Cyber Formula (even if that anime had its own flaws). Highspeed Etoile seems to me to be a very lackluster and uninspired Formula E inspired racing anime, with more female characters thrown in. Nothing against female racers, but they're not what let episode 1 down imo. What I disliked was the stoicness of the CGI faces, the really boring commentators, the Queen's supporter Richard hanging up his driving gloves, and the lack of pit crew and the numerous faceless spectators. More importantly, the racing did NOT seem fast. It just felt flat. I'll still watch since it's a racing/sports anime, but there are also other sports anime coming that will compete for my time.
Oh and half the field are claimed to be AI racers and there's supposedly some system that helps maintain distance between the cars, yet the show seemingly contradicted itself when crashes occurred. |
I'm sort of confused I guess the new girl takes over for the Falk guy? I'm not sure what to expect but I'll give it another week or two.

Spoiler for first impressions:

I'll admit that full CG anime need to really wow me to get past the inherent bias I have against them.
The only really entertaining thing was getting a smirk when seeing the Good Smile Company name pop up. Makes sense since they are one of the Producers for it. But honestly it just didn't do much to grab me. Holding the main character out of it until the last couple minutes was certainly a choice. It just didn't have a lot of intensity. The legendary best driver was pretty much in charge and finished the race that way. And yeah the commentary lacked intensity which just made it feel even less engaging. Nothing is for everyone. So I'll give the show a salute and move on. This season is packed so quick choices for everyone on every show is needed. Hopefully anyone that did have fun with this enjoys the rest of it though. |
Unfortunately, seems like another example of a female-led sports anime getting screwed over by poor/lazy production (the example that sticks in my mind is Farewell, My Dear Cramer AKA Sayonara, Football - I love the manga, but the anime was horribly cheap).
