Losing the net...

Well, occasionally I'll be running a window of Bittornado running, and out of the blue, my internet connection will seem to basically die. I lose all connections on bittorrent, my IRC disconnects, and I can no longer surf the internet, though my DSL modem's "Internet" light is still on. Here's are the two possible causes:

-ZoneAlarm v5.1.011.000 . Yes. I know ZoneAlaram 5 blows...but I have a distinct feeling this isn't the cause, but maybe it's just me.

-Stupid SBC Yahoo DSL. Why can't they just keep their DNS servers running instead of forcing me to reboot my PC for a "power cycle" -_-;;

Which do you think is most likely?

Your problem is Zone Alarm. Version 5 causes random connection hangups. This is a known issue. The only known solution for this is to downgrade to version 4.5. To properly uninstall v5 you need to follow the proceedure at http://don.hoover.net/uninstall.html. You can find a link to the old version at http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html

The sticky thread ZoneAlarm 5.0.590.043 causes connection hangups with BitTorrent clients discusses this issue in detail.
