Portable HDD

Is there a player that does not require all codecs to be in the Windows System folder yet can play all formats?

Intend to connect to my office pc as secondary hdd. VLC can?

VLC can play most formats except some newest codecs. You should not see any major problems.

on a side note, why watch it at work? Aren't you supposed to be working?

You might also want to try MPlayer. It bases on the same software as VLC but has some advantages. It doesn't has a real interface but is much less clunky than VLC. You can also use win32 codecs with MPlayer so it can play WMV9 and the RealVideo9 codecs.
You can get it here: http://csant.info/mplayer.htm (Direct Link)
You can find the additional codecs here: http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/codecs.html (Direct Link)

MPlayer is great because of nifty features like this:
"mplayer -dumpstream rtsp://someserver/somevideo.rm"

Would BSplayer be a good choice? I see that its does not even need to be installed. Unzip and its ready for use.

*Btw, would a p3 550mhz with 128mb sdram be sufficent for watching .avi anime?

BSPlayer will need codecs installed on the systems so that does not work for the criteria you set forth. As to processing on a P3-550, yes - my old system was that. The only thing is that you have to make sure you use ffdshow as your main decoder codec or use vlc since both are very processor lite compared to other codecs.
